Top Teams of 2010

Marvel.com: With 2011 upon us, Marvel.com now takes this time to recognize the super groups that excelled in 2010 with our Top Teams list, selected by our very own Secret Cabal. Enjoy and let us know who you think deserved recognition!

10. The Secret Avengers

09. The Young Avengers

08. The Thunderbolts

07. The Secret Warriors

06. Uncanny X-Force

2010 Roster: Archangel, Wolverine, Deadpool, Fantomex, Psylocke

Year in Review:
The last incarnation of X-Force came to an end following the back-to-back campaigns of Necrosha and Second Coming, but Wolverine and Archangel felt the X-Men still needed a group willing to go where the main team could not, whether Cyclops approved or not. This new top secret squad has only just formed, but should they survive their first encounter with a revived Apocalypse and his latest Horsemen, they should prove a force to be reckoned with.

05. The Guardians of the Galaxy

04. The New Avengers

03. The Fantastic Four

02. The X-Men

2010 Roster:
Cyclops, Iceman, Angel, Beast, Nightcrawler, Wolverine, Storm, Colossus, Kitty Pryde, Rogue, Magneto, Psylocke, Dazzler, Gambit, Emma Frost, Northstar, Pixie, Namor

Year in Review:
The X-Men saw triumph and tragedy in the wake the so-called “mutant messiah,” Hope Summers, returning to the present day. While Nightcrawler and Cable both fell protecting Utopia from Bastion, the team managed to turn the tide and the young “savior” unleashed her power, beating back the bad guys and also reigniting new mutant births across the globe. Cyclops and company also fended off a vampire invasion of San Francisco and stopped Selene’s undead mutant army.

Axel Alonso Named Marvel Editor-in-Chief

CBR: In an unexpected change to start the new year, Marvel Comics today announced that longtime editor Axel Alonso has been promoted to the position of Editor-in-Chief, replacing Joe Quesada in the job. After an over ten-year run at the helm of the company's publishing, Quesada will continue in his role as Chief Creative Officer for Marvel Entertainment.

Why is this important to us? Because Axel Alonso's favorite character is Psylocke!

John Barber: "Axel is a big Psylocke fan. He’s been wanting to get her into the book for a long time."
(X-Position: X-Editors, December 2008)

Nick Lowe: "[Psylocke popping up in a lot of places] It's definitely intentional and you have one man to thank for it - Axel Alonso. He loves Psylocke even more than Warren Worthington and CB Cebulski do… and that's saying a lot!"
(X-Position: Nick Lowe, November 2009)

Nick Lowe: "Axel loves Psylocke – plain and simple. He just loves her. So that's pretty much why she's there [in Uncanny X-Force]."
(X-Position: Nick Lowe, October 2010)

Axel Alonso: "At the X-Men summits, Gambit, Hellion and my personal favorite Psylocke always come up in discussion. I mean, I love Psylocke and I love Mystique – I would love to do a substantial series featuring them as leads, but before I do, I've got to know I can really deliver the goods."
(Cup 'O Joe: Marvel T&A, November 2010)

Axel Alonso is also the man behind 5 Ronin -- Out of all Marvel female characters, Psylocke was the one chosen to be part of it. Let's hope this unexpected change means more good things for Betsy Braddock.

CBR's Top 100 Comics of 2010

27. Uncanny X-Force

Written By: Rick Remender
Illustrated By: Jerome Opena
Published By: Marvel Comics

The X-Men's black-ops squad reinvented themselves with a new roster, a new mission and a new creative team this year to incredible results. Rick Remender's handle on established favorites like Wolverine and Deadpool make these variant-cover hogs feel like fresh, new faces, while new life has been breathed into Apocalypse while Fantomex recieved some much-needed time in the spotlight. Throw in Jerome Opena's action-packed panels and you've got a title where everything old is new again, and that suits us just fine.

X-Position: Top X-Moments of 2010

CBR: Right before the end of 2010, CBR asked you - their faithful X-POSITION readers - to send them your favorite moments of the year gone by from the various X-books. Here they are!

1. "X-Men: Curse Of The Mutants -- Storm and Gambit" One-Shot

2. Angel and Psylocke Get Back Together

Reunited and it feels so good! Most comic readers are romantics at heart, and the X-fans are no exception. It seems everyone was thrilled to see this classic couple back together, and they truly appreciated the reason behind this reunion as well...

I only have one favorite moment of 2010: Angel and Psylocke getting back together. I'm glad they didn't get back together just for the sake of it -- there's substance to it. I love how Remender handles the relationship and how it acts as the heart of the book. Plus they've always been my favorite X-couple.
--Giselle

When Betty explains to Warren why she is there on the team -- it's pure romance meshed with drama and reality. And it's all complemented by Jerome Opena's wonderful art and damn fine dialogue by the awesome Rick Remender!
--Renaldo

Psylocke and Archangel getting back together...it just feels so right. The X-Universe was lacking some good old romance...
--Ben

3. The Death of Nightcrawler

4. "Uncanny X-Force" and The Final Horsemen

In September, the covert X-Force team formed by Cyclops and Wolverine was disbanded, but less than thirty days later...long live X-Force! That is to say, long live the new Uncanny X-Force, as written by Rick Remender. The formation of this team (headed by Angel and Wolverine) coupled with the creation of new Final Horsemen drove fans wild with excitement!

"Uncanny X-Force" definitely comes first. The Final Horsemen are the best Horsemen lineup to date! A Geisha who vomits bugs? Just beautiful!
-- Chace

Two issues in and this has already outshined everything else that was released this year. Wolverine, Archangel, Psylocke, Deadpool and Fantomex chasing Apocalypse as a child? What's not to like?
-- Ben

5. Rahne's Long-Awaited Return to "X-Factor"

6. Inferno Babies!

7. Emma Frost's Tanline

8. "Pixie Strikes Back"

9. Doop's Investigation

10. Cyclops Has Breakfest

11. Dani Vs. Hope

12. The Death of Nathan Cable Summers

Runner-ups: "X-Women", Dani Moonster Turns Into a Valkyrie and "Second Coming" and its Ensuing Revelations
