X-Men Unlimited Infinity Comic #123 Spoilers & Art

Previously: Camp Gozhoo, Indigenous reservation and home to the Proudstar brothers, opened its borders to mutant refugees in the wake of Orchis’ devastating attacks on mutantkind. Unfortunately, Orchis troops, somehow seemingly allied with the mutant Externals, invaded. Thunderbird and Warpath were able to take down the brutal External named Crule, through Warpath was injured… and Crule’s allies made off with the large bulk of the mutant refugees.

Spoilers: Grandma Lozen tends to Warpath's injuries at Camp Gozhoo while Dani telepathically contacts Betsy, who is busy doing press to counter Orchis' propaganda. Thunderbird is reluctant to join a team but agrees to help after Dani emphasizes the urgency of rescuing mutants being kidnapped worldwide. In Madrid, El Aguila is captured by Orchis goons. Dani recruits Thunderbird for the mission, leaving Warpath behind to heal and protect the camp. Shatterstar unexpectedly teleports in to take Dani and Thunderbid back to the team's base: the X-Corps island hidden and hovering over the Pacific ocean is revealed. In Hell, Michigan, Orchis goons transporting mutant children crash, and Gideon, the External, reveals himself as the one who stopped them.

...her hair should be lavender. That's not lavender. That's like hot purple or something. Sigh.

Betsy doing stuff for mutants instead of focusing on Otherworld nonsense
Betsy written by different writers
Betsy integrated to the main X-plot

We're off to a good start. :D

Nice to not have Rachel at Betsy's feet foaming at the mouth here for once. Nice seeing the butterfly.

Also when did Dani become a full telepath? I understood her psionic ability was limited to illusions? I'm assuming Karma is now a full TP too?

Or simply they haven't done their homework on the delicate powers of Dani. Mirage can use psionics to bring to life your worst fears and hurt you with them by turning them into weapons in her case arrows. Dani can also communicate with animals and spirits but that is her Shamanic power not to be confused with telepathy.

They don't care or are color blind. This ain't hot purple either. It's neon pink floss something Pixie would love to wear on her hair.
They can't purple and lavender Betsy's hair if you paid them big bucks.

I just assumed Betsy was keeping a psychic link between her and Dani since Betsy was supposed to rescue them, but she had to send Shatterstar instead.

@Nate, I was just about to say the same thing. I’m gonna give Orlando and Foxe the benefit of doubt and assume that Elizabeth formed a telepathic link with them prior to mission, so they can all easily stay in touch with updates.

Yeah this occurred to me after I posted. I guess seeing Dani communicate first led me to the question.

Danielle isn't a true telepath in the Jean, Betsy, Rachel kind, but it was established a while ago in one of the NM runs that she can establish psi-bonds & use full telepathy via Cerebro.
They've only had her display it before this in a NM annual & one of the more recent X-Force runs.
My guess is since the Orchis/Gala massacre that Betsy/Rachel have been trying to stay in touch with any remaining X-fam psi.

In this particular panle, regarding the hair color. Shine a pink light over something light purple and tell me what color it looks like (and yes, Betsy's powers produce visible light)

I remember Beast saying that she kinda glowed when she used her TK, but I never heard her Telepathy produced a visible light.

I don't think that makes much sense to be honest (respectfully).

My impression in this panel (and many other instances), Betsy is having a secret Telepathic conversation while appearing to be interviewed or have a verbal conversation with the other person in panel.

If they could actually see her Telepathic powers glowing, that would kinda let the cat out of the bag on what she was doing & destroy the subtlety she's trying to achieve.

Imo I think its just colored badly lol.

@X-Man Exactly. Telepathy isn't supposed to produce light patterns because then everyone else would know that a telepath is doing their shit. Telekinesis would be much more understandable because, well, matters move and light contains particles of matter too (or not, Idk correct me if I'm wrong because physics and chemistry are not amongst my strongest knowledge) so there would be energy-based light patterns created. That's why Jean being the Phoenix scares people around her because you could see fire when she does her telekinesis stuff enhanced by the Phoenix Force. Meanwhile, when she was just using her telepathy power, no one could see her pink energy and they're always left shocked at what Jean has done because they didn't know. That has to be how telepathy works. Similarly, Betsy purplish pink butterfly-shaped energy would be invisible to the people around her, but it's visible to us the readers because it's meant to show to us that Betsy's doing telepathy right in the moment.

I definitely think the butterfly power signature, including Betsy’s butterfly “psi-self”/astral avatar are invisible to other characters with the possible exception of those she is telepathically interacting with as there have been references to the butterfly in print such as when Rachel asked her the difference between the butterfly and the sword when they first became close friends.

And then there was that time during the dreadful Fraction run when she used her psychic knife as a makeshift torch to illuminate a tunnel that she and some others were traveling through.

In theory, should the psi-dagger be invisible too or any of her other constructs?

I actually disagree that telekinesis should have a visible energy signature. I much prefer the way Jane/Eleven of Stranger Things uses her telepathy and telekinesis with no visible light most of the time execpt for when she did things that manipulate energy fields and involved the gates.

X-Man said...

@Rahsaan to be clear, I agree with you. I don't think the TK should be seen either.

I was just noting that I recall Beast saying that to Betsy a little bit before she died if I recall correctly.

Not exactly that he could see her TK, but that she glowed when she used it.

Love that i commissioned Phillip Sevy to draw Betsy a couple of years ago, and now he's doing it officially. Got a little preview of the future!

Nice. Can you share it here FifthDream?
