Sadly, I don't see this happening; at least not as long as "Ninja Psylocke" continues being a commercially interesting character for Marvel.

It's a bittersweet situation. On the one hand, Betsy (plus Rachel and several other characters) are finally free from the mess that this run has been, and they may be "fixed" after some time and in the hands of a good creative team (though it will take quite some work); on the other hand, CB#5's ending pretty much looks like an excuse to send Betsy and Rachel indefinitely to editorial limbo (as Marvel can just say that "they're still traveling between realities and helping the Captain Britain corps).

That said, while I doubt that Marvel will give the Psylocke mantle back to Betsy, she could always adopt a new codename and return to her X-Men uniforms, personality, etc. For example, she could become Krakoa's top secret agent and answer as Agent Braddock just like Lizzie did in the Captain Carter book (that is, assuming the X-Men will still be living in Krakoa by the time Betsy returns to comic books). But hey, Dazzler spent several years absent and eventually the requests from X-fans for her return were answered, and Betsy has a bigger audience than Dazzler, so while it may take some time for her to be back, I'm confident that she will be back.

Rahsaan said...: @X-Man, Ray is bisexual unless canon has changed and her relationships with Franklin, Kurt, and Korvus have been retconned to have been during a closeted phase of her of life, which I’d be okay with. However, you know many of these current writers don’t embrace continuity. Rachel has at times had a butch/stud look and it was implied that she and the older Kate Pryde from her timeline may have been romantically involved prior to Katherine using post-hypnotic suggestion that activated the Phoenix Force to supercharge her chronoskimming ability and send her to our timeline.

Again, it’s rare that many of these current writers other than Hickman, Ewing, or Gillon actually apply logic to advance their storytelling. For instance, it would be cool to see a conversation with Ray addressing her times with women and with men and reading her thoughts on her orientation. Some would argue that is heavy-handed, but I disagree as so much of the writing often feels like it’s out of left field, like Rachel and Betsy’s attraction to one another. Banquo40 said...: I believe the missed opportunity in portraying two telepaths was exploring their relationship in the psychic world, where physical attraction is not as important as their spiritual connection. Labeling Rachel and Betsy as "gay" limits the depth of their relationship that could exist beyond just romantic attraction.

Instead of focusing on the obvious, it would have been more interesting to explore ideas that showcase Betsy's depth of empathy. This would make her the perfect character to illustrate that love goes beyond surface appearances.

If Howard wanted to push boundaries, they could have explored the concept of Betsy not subscribing to the idea of monogamy due to her ability to see attractive qualities in many individuals beyond the physical realm. She is unapologetic about her encounters and chooses not to limit herself.

I believe that in the past, pre Howard, Betsy's character is portrayed as cool, smart, and worldly, someone who cannot be dominated by anyone. It would have been satisfying to witness the moment when Rachel realized this aspect of Betsy's personality and that Betsy is not marrrying kind at least not the traditional kind marriage. Because lets face it, domestic bliss is nice, but boring, a little more drama could have made this book better. And all reltionships end, one way or another, and since these characters will live on beyond us, it would have been a perfect ending to that chaper of Betsys continuity.

That's just an idea, of course, but what I am getting at is that maybe I would have bought into that relationship if it had a different point of view.; July 1, 2023 at 11:58 AM

The reason I believe this is because their interviews were quite revealing. I noticed a lot of self-centered concepts, such as "me" and "I". During an interview about the writing of Harley Quinn, they mentioned their mental health journey. In another interview about Betsy, they discussed their experience witnessing a same-sex kiss and how it exhilarated them to recreate it. Additionally, they referenced their interest in larping and at one point expressed a desire to attract readers who are similar to them.

They lost me every time with their comics because I read them as an escape from reality. Howards life experiences are boring, like my own, because the real world of everyday mundane life just is. While real-world issues can be incorporated, they did it in a heavy-handed way and the personal related content felt like Betsy was being used as a mouthpiece to showcase someone's life experiences and thoughts as the ultimate wisdom and interest. It felt condescending and even could be described as mansplainy. Respect the intelligence of your audience is what I would say, and assume they just might be aware of some of the ideas and contemporary tropes that they seem to feel is new news.; July 2, 2023 at 9:21 AM

Then on top was thrust into magic and fantasy storylines which though Betsy has a connection to, was not usually what she geared toward storyline wise and just made her feel out of place imho.

X-Man said...: To be fair. When the Hickman stuff was coming out, all the X-men were acting kinda off almost like "pod people" imho, so Betsy probably didn't stand out as much at first with not acting in character.

After a bit, the X-men were more in character but it became painfully clear besides a few shining moments, that Betsy was going to remain the same.

I also tried to be optimistic with Howard because she knew so much about Betsy, so I don't think you were a fool. Just hopeful.
