FSaker said...: @Lindsay, to be honest, I liked Leah Williams's Betsy. Yes, that whole part about Betsy having body dysmorphia was horrible (it would be okay if that issue was restricted to her life in the AoXM universe, but then Williams said that Betsy also has this issue in the main reality, which makes no sense at all with everything that's been shown about her ever since she was created), but at least she was shown as a capable agent and leader, and she also had a likeable personality (while in Excalibur she spent almost the entire run as a whiny leader failing to connect with people she's been friends with for DECADES).

That said, both writers have failed in their ideas to retcon Betsy's background and add personal issues that she never had before. It's a pity, because I do believe that both Williams and Howard are capable writers and that they have the capacity to deliver much better stories and characterizations than they did.; December 30, 2022 at 11:15 AM
randybear said...: I think both are in a situation where editorial is just letting them do as they please so the storytelling is all over the place. The tone of every book Leah writes is so inconsistent you never know what she's trying to go for. People are going nuts for XTerminators calling it "fun and hilarious".
