Ten Mutants Embark on an Epic Quest to Retrieve the Holy Grail of Mutantkind

Marvel.com: Krakoa may represent mutantkind’s brightest era yet but within the mystical realm of Otherworld, mutants are hated and feared once more. As the Destiny of X age begins, nine mutants will get the call to join Captain Britain on a fantastic quest to restore order in the all-new ongoing series KNIGHTS OF X!

Writer Tini Howard has redefined the X-Men’s relationship with magic in the pages of EXCALIBUR and X OF SWORDS. Now, she continues her enchanting work on the mutant mythos in KNIGHTS OF X alongside artist Bob Quinn. Known for his stunning work on WAY OF X, Quinn is equipped to capture the strange beauty and the mysterious danger of Otherworld. Together, this creative team will take readers on an adventure that will become mutant legend as Captain Britain, Rictor, Shatterstar, Gambit, Rachel Summers, Bei the Blood Moon, Gloriana, and two more surprise characters assemble to recover an artifact deeply rooted in X-Men history.

The gates to Otherworld are closed — and Captain Britain is trapped on the wrong side! Usurpers Merlyn and his right-hand man, King Arthur, are now in control of Lunatic Citadel. Furies the size of Sentinels raze villages to the ground in their hunt for the “witchbreed.” Cut off from Krakoa, Betsy Braddock is Otherworld’s only hero — and to save her people, Betsy must recruit a round table of her own. The Knights of X gather to restore the rightful order and rescue desperate mutants — but their quest is about to get so much bigger than that. This is the era of destiny…and the fate of Otherworld lies at the center of mutantkind’s future.

"At the end of Excalibur, we saw Merlyn take control of all Otherworld, transforming the Starlight Citadel into the Lunatic Citadel and raging his war on mutants from Saturnyne's former throne. Captain Britain stayed within when the gates fell, but even with the whole Corps at her side - it'll take more than an army of one to bring down King Arthur and his Furies,” Howard explained. “You'll recognize many of the Knights from Excalibur’s past - both my run and the classic - in a quest for a precious treasure that crashes our high fantasy tale into that most classic X-Men story - fighting for a(n Other)world that hates and fears them."

“Tini Howard and Marcus To’s run on EXCALIBUR was incredible, so launching the follow-up series is equal parts exciting and intimidating,” Quinn said. “But I’m giving this series everything I have, I’m proud to say that these are the best pages I’ve ever drawn. Otherworld is a big draw for me. I’ve drawn midwest farms, New Jersey neighborhoods, and Central Park in my books at Marvel, and I’m excited to let my imagination loose drawing some of the weirder and wilder people and places in Otherworld!”

Don’t miss this essential chapter of the new Krakoa when KNIGHTS OF X #1 arrives in April.

Does Betsy have a new outfit?

Yeah the artist Bob Quinn confirmed he designed the new look 😊

So she will continue to use Shogo as a dragon and the team's vehicle/powerhouse? Doesn't anyone at Marvel see how WRONG this is?? Hopefully this is another dragon, considering that Jubilee is nowhere to be seen in these images.

I can't tell from this cover if Betsy's new uniform is better or worse. The torso part doesn't look like armor... and I wonder if she'll still have the helmet (or a Union Jack mask) whenever she's in action. I thought her mask in the Otherworld arc of Remender's UXF was quite cool.

As for the two surprise mutants... I suppose Rogue and Cypher will still be busy in their respective X-books, Jubilee wouldn't really be a surprise, Brian isn't a mutant (the first paragraph mentions "nine MUTANTS"), and it wouldn't make sense for Pete Wisdom to join KoX when he has just founded his S.T.R.I.K.E. team, so I guess they will really be a surprise.

It looks a bit like the Outback armor :)

Oh dang, I might not be as happy now, I realized that she still has a cape :( I was hoping she ditched the cape lol.

Why is she holding a sword with a normal hilt, but an energy blade.

Her psychic sword isn't a bloody lightsaber.

Wow. No-one involved with this cares at all.

Yeah I've seen her sword colored like that here and there on covers it irks me. Also her hair is pink on the cover 😔 im so tired

Will Elizabeth, Remy, Julio, and Meggan finally use their powers fully? Tini never did anything interesting with power sets in Excalibur.

I have some remaining faith in Howard who has built the Otherworld kingdoms (Avalon, Floating Kingdom, Mercator, Dryador, Blightspoke, Holy Republic, Hothive, Crooked Market, Sevalith, Everforge) and spent months on writing the lore around each with detail. She remembers open plot lines and wants to close them sometimes in a well-rounded way and others quickly and mediocre.

On a high note Howard captured the personalities of Apocalypse and Rictor. The negative was the out of character Betsy, Rogue, Gambit and Brian.

Betsy was coerced to take the Captain Britain mantle and the explanation as to why she kept it was unconvincing. The good came close to the ending of Excalibur when Betsy found herself and unleashed her butterfly signifying she still has it and the fighting spirit.

The story left out Brian and punished him if I'm allowed to say that. For better or worse Brian was sidelined for the mutant story to go on in the Otherworld. In my opinion Brian and Betsy could share the title of Captain Britain, Brian in the Otherworld and Betsy on Krakoa to be more involved with mutant affairs and not feel like Betsy is disconnected from what is happening in the flagship title.

To conclude Excalibur's pace suffered from the constant events thrown bimontly putting on ice the main plot and severing the writing cohesion. I hope this time things run smoothly and with more focus to the story and personalities of the main cast and the supporting one.

@Rahsaan I agree.

I'm also afraid we'll see Rachel become the team Psi like "A" seemed to be and Betsy hardly using her psi abilities because she has the CB powerset despite the story being about hunting mutants.

I agree @Jaime.

She never showed interest in being CB for years, and it was forced on her. I never really bought it. Betts taking & keeping CB from Brian was as in bad taste as Kwannon deciding she deserves the Psylocke name imo.

I rather she took the "Sword of Might" & it enhanced her psi abilities instead of making her "Monet" Jr lol.

I support Betsy, but not sure how long I'll read the book. I'm not into Otherworld as much as Tini is. Brian didn't even go to Otherworld this much lol.

I think possibly in this case her hair is pink due to the glow. We can't really see what her new outfit looks like either because of the glow (maybe wishful thinking lol).

More fanfic and scissorships yay!

I laugh at the editors thinking we split hairs missing the point Betsy isn't the same without the right purple hair butterfly and tk weapons. I'm tired of grouchy sorry @$$ Betsy FCOL just let her look like real Betsy.

Imma keep my cool about the new costume till we see it in action to rate. Was comparing covers of Legion of X with Knights and Pixie took over Captain Britain. Betsy is pixified again.

Right? I recently reread New Excalibur and CB and the MI13 and both books barely related to OW much less did they venture there. Not sure why Betsy has to be subjected to being obligated to OW for the rest of her comic career. Oh well RIP Betsy!
