Nice. I like the art. But I wish there was the panel of Kwannon entering too

Marcus To's art is always gorgeous!

I know this blog is about Betsy, but can we take a moment to appreciate how pretty ROGUE looks in these pages? And it's great to see her take a big role in this arc!

Beautiful butterfly <3

I'm glad Rogue is finally getting a lot more panel time. Swords/Apocalypse being over finally let the other characters start to shine. Only took nearly 20 issues but I digress lol and yes Rogue looks gorgeous! I love how To draws she and Megan specifically but he's great over all.

Who do you guys think it's possessing Betsy? Saphire Styx? Malice? It looks like it's someone Rogue knows.

FSaker said...

Shadow King, maybe? He does have a long history with Betsy...

Then again, the cover for Excalibur #20 seems to indicate that the entity possessing Betsy's body is female, so maybe Malice. Considering that this body was raised by Sinister and that Malice used to be one of Sinister's Marauders, that could make sense.

Shadowking would be an interesting surprise after what happened in Astonishing X-Men, though Malice seems a closer bet.
Art is fabulous!!

Ok, I was trashtalking Tini one minute ago, but now after seeig the action I am totally in! Well, its really fun to watch a good fight between to powerful women. Plus, Kwannon, Rachel and Emma appearance

Someone needs to show Betsy the security footage on Krakoa and be like, "Yo... your designer imposter used your meat suit better. So, like - take notes."

And To draws it so detailed and beautiful! Artists would get lazy drawing it sometimes with just an easy smooth butterfly outline but I like the detail and effort put here by To

This kinda reminds me of the Sisterhood arc when Betsys OG body was possessed and fighting her teammates lol I doubt it's a call back but pretty similar IMO

To be honest, it would be pathetic and redundant if Betsy were to be possessed again by another being. Historically, she is a high-level telepath (if not omega anymore) and to be possessed by another really lowers her on a power scale and will power. Her duel in X of Sword was already a disgrace...

Hopefully it's not the real Betsy here.

I don't think it's the real Betsy. The solicitation for the next issue is: "She didn’t mean anything by it...but what’s a girl without a body supposed to do?"

Maybe Betsy's mind was transported back to the main reality but it's connected to her original body - which was destroyed in XoS -, making her some sort of "psychic ghost". Or maybe (but hopefully not) her mind was sent to Kwannon's body, and the scene where Kwannon is saving Rogue actually has both Kwannon's and Betsy's mind inside Kwannon's body.

Plus, if her mind was in the body attacking Rogue, even if it was suppressed by whoever is possessing the body, there would probably be a panel hinting at it, with Evil Betsy having some internal conflict.

And yeah, it does remind me of Fraction's Sisterhood arc. To me, Fraction had some great ideas and most of his arcs had very interesting concepts - the problem is that the arc endings always fell flat (Bendis has a similar problem but with full runs; his first arcs for his runs in mainstream comic books are actually great).

Aren't you forgetting something?
First it could be Jaime's Betsy. Another thing, how did she manage to summon the sword and become Captain Britain?
I also agree that her theory is bad, because she may be possessed. But man, we want Betsy the way he always was, confident and knowing how to use his powers, stop this sad Betsy!

FSaker said...

@Dado Mendes, this body is Jamie's Betsy, I don't think there's any doubt about that. The thing is, Jamie's Betsy was supposed to be just an "empty husk", with no consciousness of her own, to be filled with the real Betsy's mind. So, the question is: whose mind is controlling Jamie's Betsy's body?

The fact that this Betsy is able to use the Starlight Sword is indeed curious. If I understood your comment correctly, you're suggesting this fact could indicate that the real Betsy's mind is already inside this body - only repressed by a second entity -, right?

That is certainly possible. Still, the solicitation for the next issue implies that the real Betsy could be out of any body, and thus unable to do anything about the impostor. I guess we'll only find out the truth next issue.

(damn, why do the plots involving Betsy's body switches always have to be so complicated?)

Also wouldn't the team take notice if whomever it is dudnt sound like Betsy? Loke if its anyone else they wouldn't speak in her voice/accent etc right? When she was in kwannons body she still had the accent so maybe this is the Queen Betsy? Jesus Christ im stumped lmao

Also if it is Jamie's body why did she appear from a flash of light in the sky and fall into the sea? Wouldn't she just emerge from Jamie's lab or whatever?

Gorgeous art, but we need a better writer on this book. We don't need Betsy to be a stereotypical Ninja chick. Just to show more agency and get that competency back up. I get they want Kwannon to be shown being a bad ass, but they don't have to do it at Betsy' expense.

Betsy is more herself when she is possessed or a cloned body than she is in her normal state. Betsy clone used the butterfly, the psychic knife, the martial arts and Tini Howard is saying not directly that these aren't Betsy's. I'm tired of watching Marvel degrade Betsy and promote Kwannon with all that is Betsy's.

Betsy looks so fine without the Captain suit. The contrast of Betsy in and out of the Captain Britain suit is big. Dawn of X was not kind to Betsy.

The artwork in this issue was flawless! Betsy looked so beautiful in nearly every panel! Also Marcus To beautifully rendered the butterfly. Eric Arcineaga's colors were absolutely breath taking too. If Marcus To ever leaves this book, it's pretty much a wrap for Excalibur. The book can't survive on the writing alone, because the writing is pretty terrible (mostly poor pacing and nothing substantial happening).

A normal person is impossible to keep up with this junk. The butterfly on Betsy softens the blow.

Agreed. I love how he draws Betsy with her hair down flowing as opposed to the braided look when she's in armor.

I wish we would get an issue of flashbacks or mindmettling where we can see To draw different past looks of Betsy lol
