RIP Betsy I honestly don't want Betsy to kill Isca. As it is people hate on Betsy so hard due to the Kwannon rhetoric that shes an evil white woman. If Betsy kills Isca (who is of African descent if im not mistaken) they will fucking lose their minds and i dont want people feeling more validated in disliking her.
Let Isca kill her and let Betsy come back stronger and better than ever lol i was worried about Betsy dying but I honestly believe this is going to be when Howard dives in and explores the Braddock lineage and their ties to Otherworld.
Are the duels supposed to be to the death, anyway? Maybe a winner can be declared without the death of the loser, somehow...
Anyway, considering how Betsy is being pushed at the forefront of the event (plus she's the alleged protagonist of the book written by one of the two masterminds of this story), I think she actually has good chances of winning.
That said, your idea isn't bad. And I doubt she'd be dead for long, anyway.
(then again, Howard did leave Rogue in a coma for almost five issues, which represented almost five months for the readers...)
Marvel, dont you dare kill Betsy AGAIN to an unknown character with such a pathetic power... she had shown lot of growth in therms of power and Olivia proved she is am amazing marketing product... (we didnt forget that Vargas shit in xtreme... still echoing)
Anyway, one thing I was just thinking now is, while the tournament doesn't begin, do you guys think the search for the swords in each book will focus on that book's team (that is, the New Mutants in their book, the X-Force in theirs, and so on)? While that would mean we'd have to wait a long time until Betsy gets the spotlight, it would also mean that most X-Men would manage to do their thing in this event (and not just the ten Swordbearers). Which is something I don't remember happening in a long time...
Then again, the X-Factor issue didn't focus on the team, right? Only Rachel and Polaris...
If people are hating on Betsy due to something Kwannon's own friends did to revive Kwannon from a brain dead status, then I can only assume they were never fans of Betsy to begin with, regardless of what body she was in. I myself wasn't a fan of a white woman controlling a minority's body, but never because of Betsy, because of the writers. It reminded me to much of the theme of the movie "Get Out". I hate victim blaming just as much, if not, more. Betsy was violated without any say for Kwannon's benefit. She was a victim in the Kwannon saga (as was Kwannon, but Kwannon seemingly doesn't seem to possess any guilt over their shared situation at all, yet it seems Betsy is expected to feel this smh) basically, I don't mind Betsy winning the fight at all lol.
Someone on Tumblr was ranting that Betsy was evil for stealing Kwannons body and that Betsy did horrible things like killed people in Kwannons body which in turn created new threats and enemies for Kwannon due to Betsy lmao like what?? These people just make shit up.
I reminded them that Betsy didn't steal anything and also Kwannon killed people while also in Betsys body and was already a killer and recognized known criminal in Japan.
But these fans always leave out context and it pisses me off how all these people are under the delusional that Betsy is this awful character. It really does stem from what I said a loong time ago when DoX started and Fallen Angels and Excalibur #1 both vaguely mention Betsy stealing Kwannons body.. thats all it took to mislead a bunch of newer readers.
Betsy's not gonna die, she's in the preview for X of Swords Stasis and that's the last chapter of the arc. That being said, Isca is supossed to be cursed with winning ... maybe her victory causes her death and that makes Betsy the actual winner. Or you know, this is just promo material to mislead readers.
Also, let go of the Betsy/Kwannon nonesense, they basically forgave eachother at the end of Fallen Angels
I believe the Kwannon/Betsy thing was pretty much full cycle at the end of fallen angels... Kwannon "forgave" Betsy (for whatever reason she tought Betsy was guilt) and follow towards...
Lol that is crazy. Kwannon was a murderous assassin while Betsy was out saving the world. One of her first scenes is killing a group of people while in Betsy's body, so much to the point her "boss" pointed out to her that the viciousness of her killing was unnecessary.
Prediction: Betsy and Brian will lose their matches and be killed, making the stakes or this event higher and more dramatic. But because of their Otherworld heritage, there’ll be a way they can be brought back (and get around how Otherworld death messes up the resurrection protocols) hence why Excalibur and Megan are searching for something (or maybe even for their souls) on that post X of Swords Excalibur cover.
Got me curious! Betsy is gonna have to be very intelligent to defeat Isca. They have a nice opportunity to write her as such and redeem her for being undershadowed in Excalibur. JJ's prediction is plausible. Jamie might have a part in bringing them back later.
She has people that think their fans but they're really just fans of Betsy when she was still a ninja. Kwannon has yet to shown any sort of distinction between herself and 90s ninja Betsy.
No background story, no personality traits unique to her character, no unique design or costume, no unique power or ability that we haven't seen Betsy do 100x over.
Just to be sure, today there will be two (or three) new chapters for X of Swords, right?
I suppose Betsy won't appear in any of them (or will get a small cameo at best), but I'm curious to find out if they will be focused on the teams of each book (that is, the X-Force team on the X-Force book, the Marauders team on the Marauders book, and so on). It's sad that X-Factor failed to do that with its characters (especially considering that was the only issue X-Factor has in the entire crossover)...
XFactor didn't fail. It heavily featured Lorna and the Res 5 who are part of XFactor
And yeah seems like each book won't be a full crossover yet maybe when the tournament begins but so far Wolverine/Xforce focused on Wolverine and the origin of his newest enemy and Marauders just featured a boring issue of Storm talking to Black Panther people. Apparently people are upset at this issue with how BP and Shuri treated Storm lol
This is why I dont want Betsy in a high profile relationship. Everyone wants her to be coupled up SO bad. Why?? Its boring!
Betsy is an action novel not a romance novel. Take that fanfic shipping shut to Tumblr and stop putting it in comics
Oh, I didn't know the Five were part of X-Factor; I thought that book was focused only on the investigation team (Northstar, Polaris, Rachel et al). Thank you for clarifying that!!
As for the first issues not being a full crossover yet, maybe that's a good thing if it allows good panel time for the characters of each book before it gets too focused on the ten Swordbearers. Then again, did the X-Force issue use the other members (Sage, Domino, Beast, etc.)? And did the other Marauders (Kitty, Bishop, Iceman, etc.) join Storm in her trip to Wakanda (or were at least shown doing their thing in another part of the world while she was dealing with her ex's family)?
Speaking of X-Force, I read that even with the friendly Krakoan era, Beast is still being a major jerk (I mean, it seems even Scott and Logan became nice people again) and most fans rejoiced when Wolverine punched him after he submitted Colossus to a public humiliation... if any X-Man has to die in this event and remain dead for months or years, please let it be him.
@Reflex, welcome! We are happy to have you and your theory sounds solid!
My thing is, we've seen so far the bearers approach the circle and present their sword. If Brian approaches with the sword of might, Betsy should have to approach the circle with the starlight sword.
So maybe she will have the sword, but the abilities to use it won't be there? Like she'll essentially be bringing an empty gun to a fight lol If that makes sense
Isn't Isca's mutant power the ability to always win??? Then of course, Betsy will lose and maybe die....but death doesn't matter anymore with those resurrections pods on Krakoa
Alexis I guess you're out if the loop. If you die in Otherworld you can be ressurected but you won't be the same person before you died. So physically yes but its not the same person. So we don't want Betsy to be reshaped or transformed again when she finally got her original body back
But don't you guys think there may be a catch involving Isca, anyway? I mean, establishing that her power is the ability to always win, several issues before she even has her match in the tournament, seems a little suspicious to me, you know? Kinda like the writers wanting us to expect her victory in order to catch us off-guard...
In any situation, we still don't know whatever will happen to any of these characters. We are all assuming Betsy will die and be reborn as a different individual with no memories of her previous life, but she may actually survive. Same goes to Brian. While the post-XoS Excalibur cover seems to indicate one of them may suffer the same fate as Rockslide, who knows, maybe it's just that after the event Brian will become Captain Britain again and Betsy will get her Psylocke identity back (yeah, Kwannon is using this identity, but there is no rule forbidding both from having it at the same time - not when Marvel has two Hawkeyes, two Wolverines and other superheroes sharing codenames).
I used to worry all the time that Betsy could be killed off or sent to editorial limbo at any time, but now I'm strangely optimistic that no matter what happens, she'll be okay.
I honeslty don't think if she dies itll be permanent. Im just worried they'll transform her into something else.
Marvel just can't leave Betsy alone shes had 2 major status quso changes since late 2018. That's insane even for a comic book character.
They need to leave her alone let her grow as CB and stop giving her radical changes. Stop taking stuff away from her and build from what we currently have.
And honeslty she won't ever go back as Psylocke that ship has sailed. Peoplr would riot if Kwannon was killed or no longer Psylocke i see way to much on twitter and tumblr of people saying Kwannon deserves to be Psylocke and that she is the real Psylocke etc etc
The sympathy card they wrote up for Kwannon in Fallen Angels was effective and has turned a large amount of readers against Betsy.
You shluld see the amount of people cheering that Isca will more than likely kill Betsy. Its pathetic IMO.
As much as I prefer Betsy over Kwannon you never see a post by me declaring she die or be killed. If anything I welcome her but I just think she would be interesting as her own identity but she's 100% 90s Betsy.
Yeah, that would be a problem. I hope it won't happen.
But would it really be a problem to have Betsy use the Psylocke name at the same time as Kwannon? They're not even in the same book, so it's not like fans of 1990s Psylocke would be prevented from having Kwannon filling that role in Hellions, while Betsy would be more like 1980s Psylocke (but more modern) in Excalibur.
I get that Kwannon's fans don't want her to lose the Psylocke identity, but it's Betsy's identity, too. And it's not as if she's one of those characters who often change codenames; she's always been Psylocke, with a very brief time as Captain Britain and her first issues as a STRIKE agent using only her real name. And her real name isn't as recognizable as Jean's, Emma's or Kitty's, so unless Marvel decides to keep her as Captain Britain, Betsy will need the Psylocke codename. And she owns it, and she deserves it.
By the way, I was searching for previews of the next XoS chapters and it seems next week there will only be two of them (Cable and New Mutants), right? I was expecting the Hellions chapter to come next week as well... then again, it's not like it will delay the release of the Excalibur one, so it's okay.
@FSaker its still scheduled for next week however I think Marvel didn't provide a preview much like how they didn't release one for XForce last week. Perhaps the opening pages contain spoilers.
I checked @Randybear. So far I just saw positive Betsy/Kwannon stuff. Some want a reconciliation etc etc. I'll look again later. I'm ready to debate this lol.

she just came back from a twenty years bad writting body swap nightmare... she deserves not the die... again. you know

Lucas, tell that to the Kwannon fans that are slandering Betsy and misleading by omitting details of the body swap storyline.

I think Betsy was wielding a new sword in one of the covers. I think it was yellow and not her usual pink psychic color.

Not sure! Excalibur #13 is before the tournament. I think Betsy goes to retrieve the sword of might and Brian refuses to hand it over and they fight
I think something happens that corrects Brian as we see on all covers after that issue in a different CB outfit.
In any situation, we still don't know whatever will happen to any of these characters. We are all assuming Betsy will die and be reborn as a different individual with no memories of her previous life, but she may actually survive. Same goes to Brian. (BTW, what's up with you people using avatar photos now? First Rahsaan, then Kiki, now you... and damn, all of you are good-looking)
the avatar makes it easier to wade through comments as many dont have a profile pic
I see. That's a good idea.

@Randybear can you provide links to these sites? I think I need to post on some.
@XMan just go on twitter or tumblr search either Captain Britain or Psylocke and browse through the results you'll find the crap im talking about.
@FSaker its still scheduled for next week however I think Marvel didn't provide a preview much like how they didn't release one for XForce last week. Perhaps the opening pages contain spoilers.

It's good Betsy to meet big challenges to show her smart and strong side.
The battle of Betsy and Isca will be remembered as the Goku vs Frieza match.
