I figured it was done because she was sending Bishop into Legions powerful & messed up mind. Betsy would need to focus to get him in there. Sometimes it's been mentioned that Bishops mind is chaotic also due to the time traveling/timelines. Both before and during his time hunting Hope across multiples timelines.
@Alex, re: Lucas' chaotic psyche that makes sense. I trust you more than the writers though to explain that Excalibur is so focused that it would be a clear telepathic path through his head and into Legion's.
Though, I thought when she first manifested sword and shield in issue 1, she said they were TK weapons. I guess they did't become telepathic until we needed to turn Angel into Archangel. Or maybe they are both telekinetic and telepathic. I'm probably expecting too much explanation from the writers. I'm just gonna go with your explanation as it's better than anything I have seen to date in terms of power set rationale in this book. :-)
She always seems to use psi weapons to link with Bishop telepathically it seems lol. I remember her using the psi knife on him in Legion Quest. That ended up dragging them all to the past. I was wondering back then why she needed to link with him in that particular way lol.
@X-Man, because it looks "rad." That is the only reason I see other. I don't see why her cute, eyes-in-wings butterfly psi-self wouldn't do the job just as efficiently and even better without having to be physically all up in his grill. That wouldn't be violent enough, I guess. LOL.
Yeah in issue #1 they were both explained as being TK weapons, unless like you said maybe she can utilize them universally since in a way both are mental energies.
I thought an interesting way to explain both would be how she explained to Rachel about her butterfly signature. The duality.
Have the shield be made of TK energy since it can be used offensively & defensively. Plus it seems like most telekinetics make general bubble shields. That way it could be explained why it can block attacks. Then have the sword be the representation of her telepathic powers. Since she uses that mostly offensively and when entering troubled minds.
@Rahsaan and @Alex. You guys may be correct in her being able to make the sword both. When Kwannon first arrived, I remember her manifesting a psychic sword made of telepathic energy. She was using half of Betsy's powers at the time, so it makes sense Betsy could have a telepathic sword as well.
So I forget this moment reminds of of when Psylocke had to use her TK katana on Bishop's head to undo R'Chel influence or whatever. She was nervous too cause she said she had to instinctively use the psy sword to not kill Bishop lol
Haha it was Kitty theres a page missing where Kitty emerges and then introduces Apocalypse haha it was so badly written they were ready to attack before kitty was just like "oh hey dont attack him" they were like "ok np! Sup Poccy??"
One of the things missed about Psylockes abilities is that her Telepathy always had some form of physical effect. I'd think through training and experience, she can modulate it to be TK or TP. However me personally I'd love it if she could only manifest the TK for defense. Telepathy for Information Gathering and offense.
Wait a second Betsy should know all about the age of Apocalypse through her going there during the Remender Uncanny X-Force series. What the writer forgetation is going on?
“For so long, my life has been out of control. Chaos and serendipity, wrapped in insanity. I have suffered, I have lost. Not just my life, but my very soul, my self. But no more. Now I know who I am.” – Elizabeth ‘Betsy’ Braddock, daughter of Otherworld, mutant, telepath, telekinetic, defender of the realm and, above all, X-Man.

Dumb question. She couldn’t just put him there without the sword? Or is it a total focus of her psionic powers thing?
Specifically, total focus with Excalibur going through his head into Legion’s as shown? If so, I guess I can buy that explanation.

Alex, you have a far superior imagination to these writers. No joke. 💜
@CmX, I agree that Betts looks awesome, including her uniform.

R’Chel was Ray’s finest hour to date. The poor dear.
Was that Pox or Kitty who said, "You can say that again, Betsy?" It's kind of amusing to hear him calling Elizabeth by her nickname.

Thanks! I was like “Dude is mad informal today!” I don’t have the issue yet.

That third panel got me quakin in my boots!!!
Betsy looks good drawn by this artist

LoL at that image of Jean clobbering Apocalypse. I don’t know why it looks like slapstick to me, but it does.
Mostly, because of how Pox is drawn.
