Psylocke: Ninja #5 Spoilers

Spoilers: The Hand holds Jubilee captive at the peak of Madripoor's treacherous cliffs, intending to use her as bait to execute Psylocke and Elektra because a high-profile death sends a far more powerful message than a quiet assassination. However, their grandstanding is abruptly shattered when Jubilee cuts her bonds and unleashes an explosive blast directly into Doka's face, sending him plummeting to his death.

High upon the cliffs of Madripoor, Psylocke and Elektra scale the sheer rock face in complete silence to rescue Jubilee. During the grueling ascent, the two former assassins are abruptly intercepted by Snakeroot zealots Genkotsu and Tekagi. Working in brutal synergy, Betsy overwhelms Genkotsu with a crushing psychic assault, forcing him to decapitate his own ally, Tekagi. Elektra swiftly executes the mind-controlled Genkotsu, cementing their lethal, unspoken alliance as they push toward the summit.

Reaching the peak, a chaotic melee instantly erupts. While Elektra clashes with Lord Daito, frantically dodging his demonic sword, Psylocke engages Matsu'o Tsurayaba, who viciously counters her telepathic illusions and leaves her dangling perilously over the cliff's fatal abyss. When an impatient Daito orders Matsu'o to drop the mutant to her death, Matsu'o shockingly betrays the Snakeroot leader, hurling a kunai directly into Daito's skull and sending his lifeless body plummeting off the mountain.

Still holding Psylocke over the edge, Matsu'o desperately begs her to reveal her true name, secretly hoping that she will embrace the identity of his lost love, Kwannon. Confused by his intentions — as she is unaware of the body-swap incident at this point — Betsy fiercely rejects Matsu'o’s delusions and his twisted idea of salvation. Summoning her psychic knife, she strikes directly into his mind and plunges Matsu'o into a devastating catatonic prison. Preferring the deadly fall over submission, Psylocke lets go of his grip. At the absolute last second, Elektra lunges forward and catches her hand, pulling her to safety and declaring that the two warriors now form a complete circuit. Standing victorious at the peak, Psylocke resolutely insists on leaving Matsu'o behind in his self-made mental prison, firmly reaffirming that he will never recover what he has lost. Psylocke and Elektra finally rescue Jubilee. In the aftermath, Elektra firmly declines Betsy's offer for further assistance, insisting she must walk her path of redemption completely alone.

A week later, deep within the Hand sanctuary, the disgraced and recently resurrected members of the Snakeroot Clan kneel before their leader, Jonin. As punishment for their humiliating failure on the cliffs, Jonin assigns the zealots a critical new mission: track down S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Johnathan Garrett, who secretly harbors the lingering, dangerous remnants of Elektra's dark soul (see: Daredevil: Fall from Grace).

Meanwhile, Wolverine urgently summons Psylocke and Jubilee to Genosha to rescue the kidnapped mutants of X-Factor, prompting him to caringly ask if Betsy is truly prepared to face former teammates like Dazzler, Havok, and Colossus again. As Betsy thoughtfully reflects on their shared past and expresses a sincere hope for their eventual forgiveness, her lingering psychic rapport with Elektra suddenly flares to life. Transcending physical distance, Betsy's mind reaches the lone assassin—now meditating at the remote Chaste temple, clad in pure white with a newly shaven head—and honors their unspoken bond by gifting her a beautiful, glowing psychic rose. Snapping back to reality just as she, Logan, and Jubilee touch down in the war-torn nation of Genosha, Betsy proudly reaffirms her true identity as Elizabeth Braddock – Betsy –, accepting her continuous evolution while standing firmly ready to protect those who need her (see X-Tinction Agenda).

Psylocke: Ninja #4 Spoilers

Spoilers: In Madripoor’s Lowtown, Matsu’o Tsurayaba meets Police Chief Tai to negotiate the retrieval of Jubilee and learns she is already in custody under Deputy Chief Lo; Tai authorizes Matsu’o to eliminate Lo and her loyal officers, leading the Hand to attack the Madripoor Novelty Company yard, where they kill the guards and confront Lo; Matsu’o speaks with her directly, states that Tai has abandoned her, and then kills her quickly.

Meanwhile, Psylocke and Elektra clash in Hightown, with Elektra attacking relentlessly and in full control while Betsy struggles to keep up, still feeling disconnected from her body; their psychic link exposes fragments of their shared past, but Betsy remains distracted by Jubilee’s danger, and as the fight escalates, she senses through telepathy that Jubilee is being tortured and is in immediate peril; refocusing, Betsy reasserts herself as Psylocke and uses her powers to briefly shift the fight before Elektra disengages, after which Betsy immediately follows Jubilee’s psychic trail.

While Jubilee is held captive by Aardwolf, Betsy follows her psychic signature into a crowded Madripoor nightclub, where the overwhelming thoughts of the crowd disrupt her focus; she is led into a VIP lounge and confronted by illusions of Dazzler, Havok, and Colossus, who initially welcome her before accusing her of manipulating and abandoning them, forcing her to relive her actions and destabilizing her emotionally; Elektra then reveals herself as the source of the illusion and, taking advantage of Betsy’s distraction, closes in and stabs her with a sai.

Jubilee is held and interrogated by Aardwolf, then escapes by kicking him off a balcony and fleeing into the crowd; outside, she runs into Matsu’o, Lord Daito, and the Hand, who surround her as she calls out for Psylocke.

After Elektra seemingly kills Psylocke, Betsy traps her in a psychic illusion involving Matt Murdock, forcing Elektra to confront her actions and revealing that both have been influencing each other’s perceptions and that killing her brought no relief; as the illusion ends and the fight resumes in the nightclub, they continue their confrontation while acknowledging their shared bond, until Betsy gains the advantage and stops, offering Elektra a truce and asking for her help to save Jubilee and escape the Hand, leaving the conflict unresolved.

Psylocke: Ninja #3 Spoilers

Spoilers: Betsy recalls her final mission under Matsu’o’s control, when she was sent as a Hand assassin against Wolverine and Jubilee. Entering Logan’s mind to break him, she instead runs into the full force of his psyche, which disrupts the Hand’s conditioning. In that moment, Betsy breaks free, turning on the Hand and attacking the Mandarin to protect Jubilee. For the first time in a long time, she regains clarity and control over herself. Later, she acknowledges that Logan took a huge risk letting her in, but it ultimately helped free her. That night, however, she dreams of Elektra, who warns her: “I will find you.”

Betsy wakes up in Madripoor shaken by the dream, while Logan simply brushes it off. Although she is now free, Betsy admits she is not ready to face the X-Men, knowing she manipulated them during their escape. Logan gives her space and lets her stay, explaining how Madripoor works and warning her about its dangers. Jubilee, meanwhile, immediately questions Betsy and doesn’t fully trust her, pointing out that Betsy doesn’t even have her real face anymore. Logan dismisses this, insisting she is still herself mentally, but the tension remains. Betsy keeps the Elektra visions to herself, not wanting to take away the hope Logan has after seeing her recover.

Betsy reflects that her connection with Logan wasn’t the only factor in breaking the conditioning. Her thoughts return to Elektra and the strange, intense intimacy they shared, which she still doesn’t understand. Wanting space, Betsy goes out into Madripoor alone, noticing how distant she feels from Jubilee and how little they actually know each other outside of their shared trauma. As she walks through the city, she becomes increasingly aware of her new body and how disconnected she feels from it. She realizes she’s been so focused on surviving that she hasn’t truly processed the physical changes to herself.

That discomfort escalates into full dysphoria as Betsy moves through a casino, no longer able to ignore how wrong this new body feels. She is approached by a man who assumes she is a prostitute, highlighting how differently she is perceived now compared to her life as Elizabeth Braddock, forcing her to experience this kind of microaggression for the first time. Instead of reacting physically, Betsy uses her telepathy to expose his insecurities and humiliate him. Unseen by her, Jubilee follows from a distance, still unsure about Betsy.

While trailing Betsy through the casino vents, Jubilee stumbles onto a violent interrogation led by Deputy Chief Lo, exposing the corruption that runs deep through Madripoor. The scene reveals a system built on money, power, and intimidation. As the situation escalates to murder, Jubilee is detected, and the corrupt guards realize someone is watching. Before she can escape, she is attacked by a feral enforcer known as Aardwolf, putting her directly in danger.

At the same time, the Hand regroups in Lowtown under Matsu’o and Lord Daito, addressing the fallout from Betsy’s defection. They acknowledge the embarrassment caused by her escape, with Matsu’o recognizing that his failure is what led to Elektra’s return. Daito, however, openly states that both Elektra and Psylocke are now targets and may need to be killed. Matsu’o objects as Betsy’s body originally belonged to Kwannon and insisting she must be kept alive, but Daito makes it clear he doesn’t care.

When Betsy returns to the apartment, she immediately senses something is wrong through lingering psychic residue. The place has been torn apart, and Jubilee is missing. Using her telepathy, Betsy reconstructs what happened: Jubilee had been following her—partly out of distrust and partly because she sees Betsy as an outsider in her bond with Logan—and realizes something else forced its way in afterward. Realizing the danger, Betsy goes back out into Madripoor to find her, struggling again with body dysmorphia and conflicting emotions. Then, she locks onto a familiar presence. Before she can react, Elektra attacks, accusing Betsy of taking away her restraint and forcing her to kill her friend. The issue ends with the two facing off, ready to fight.

Psylocke: Ninja #2 Spoilers

Spoilers: Continuing her assault on the Chaste’s stronghold, Psylocke advances with singular focus, suppressing intrusive sensory impressions that surface unbidden in her mind—images, scents, fragments of songs. Acting in pursuit of vengeance on behalf of the Hand following Elektra Natchios’ betrayal, she engages the Chaste—Flame, Wing, Shaft, Claw, and Star—in direct combat. Though aware of her telepathic abilities and capacity to deceive or disorient, Psylocke admits a preference for the immediate effects of hand-to-hand confrontation, taking satisfaction in physical engagement despite the power of her mind.

Overpowering the Chaste through disciplined force, Psylocke defeats Stone by fusing physical and spiritual attacks, glancing herself within her own scattered psychic-energy assault and detonating it at close range. With the remaining defenders incapacitated, she advances toward the healing pool where Elektra lies under Palm’s care, declaring that nothing now stands in her way. As Psylocke prepares to eliminate her target, Palm recognizes her not as a willing aggressor, but as a victim—warning that the Hand of the Beast may still have “a finger or two” in her heart.

Before Psylocke can complete her mission, Elektra rises—fully animated by the Beast’s influence—and turns on Palm, driving her clawed hand into the healer’s abdomen and fatally wounding her. As Elektra declares her intent to reclaim what was stolen, the two engage directly. Recognizing she cannot match Elektra physically, Psylocke resolves to rely on her mental powers—not scattered, but targeted—forming a focused totality and manifesting a psychic knife, which she drives into Elektra’s brain, deep into the neural pathways that record memory.

For a moment, the two become linked—“a circuit”—as Psylocke witnesses Elektra’s life: her lover Daredevil, her father, his loss, and the rage that followed as she fell deeper into darkness under the Beast’s influence. As the ancient presence retreats from Elektra’s soul, Psylocke and Elektra are violently repelled—like magnets of the same polarity—and the circuit breaks. Aided by Palm’s chi and Psylocke’s surgical psychic strike, Elektra is freed from the Beast’s influence, regaining consciousness beside Palm’s dying body.

Elsewhere, Psylocke reels from psychic feedback as fragments of identity surface. Intercepted by Matsu’o Tsurayaba, she is pressed to reveal her true name and questioned as to whether she is Kwannon. Psylocke responds by identifying herself as Elizabeth Braddock—Betsy. Realizing she retains memories of her former life, Matsu’o concludes that she is not yet his beloved. Declaring that Psylocke must remain alive if he is to retrieve Kwannon’s spirit, he resolves that Betsy Braddock must remain of use to the Hand.

In the days that follow, the Chaste gather to honor Palm with funeral rites, acknowledging Psylocke’s role in cleansing Elektra’s mind—though they concede that such freedom will not change Elektra’s nature, nor extinguish the anger that has grown within her since her father’s death. In Shinjuku City, Elektra resurfaces within the criminal underworld, vowing that if Psylocke is seen anywhere—above or below—she will be found.

Elsewhere, at the Hand’s private island laboratory in the South China Sea, Matsu’o returns empty-handed and is informed that Psylocke will be assigned a new mission—and a new name—in service of the Hand’s interests in Hong Kong. As he is led to a containment chamber where Psylocke lies suspended in a tank, Matsu’o subjects Betsy to further brainwashing in preparation for her next mission.

Psylocke: Ninja #1 Spoilers

Spoilers: Fearing the inevitable slaughter of the X-Men at the hands of the cyborg Reavers, Psylocke uses her telepathic powers to push her teammates into the Siege Perilous, a mystical artifact that offers the possibility of a new life. Choosing rebirth over death, she follows them through the portal herself, hoping to escape an existence shaped by the expectations of others. She emerges on the shores of Okinawa, Japan, where she is discovered by local fishermen. Mentally disoriented, Psylocke’s thoughts begin to project directly into their minds: she speaks first in English, then in Japanese, and finally in Uchinaaguchi—the nearly forgotten native language of the islands. Realizing she is a mutant, the fishermen decide to turn her over to the criminal organization that controls the island: the Hand.

Meanwhile, on an island in the South China Sea, within a Hand fortress, Matsu’o Tsurayaba—a high-ranking member of the organization—recounts his most recent assignment from the Jonin. His target had been the crime lord Nyoirin Henecha, who employed Kwannon, Matsu’o’s lover, as his personal assassin. Neither Matsu’o nor Kwannon was willing to yield, and the mission culminated in a brutal confrontation. Matsu’o is now haunted by Kwannon’s death, having watched her fall from a cliff during their battle. Seeing an opportunity to “save” the woman he loved, Matsu’o proposes a dark plan to the Jonin. Initially rejected, the Jonin later reconsiders and ultimately agrees. The Hand intends to transplant Psylocke’s powerful telepathic mind into Kwannon’s physically perfect but brain-dead body, creating a loyal “masterpiece”: a psychic ninja engineered to serve the Hand’s interests and capable of standing against American superheroes. The Jonin warns Matsu’o that remnants of Kwannon’s original self may surface within Psylocke’s discarded body during the process—and that if Matsu’o fails, the resulting being will be used as collateral.

Some time later, in the snowy mountains of northern Japan, the transformed Psylocke trains relentlessly, demonstrating her new lethality by charging a bear and hurling it away with a single devastating kick. Declaring that she has scouted the region and is ready, she prepares for her final test of loyalty. Matsu’o leads her to a temple perched atop a sheer cliff, where she is ordered to eliminate the Hand’s greatest enemies: the Chaste, a mystical martial arts order that once allied with the Hand before turning against them. Matsu’o warns her that the Chaste possess something stolen from the Hand—something Psylocke must not recover, but utterly destroy.

As the loyal Psylocke begins her ascent up the cliff, she ruthlessly suppresses intrusive thoughts tied to her former British identity, dismissing memories of her past life as meaningless debris. Yet fragments still surface: the image of throwing a snowball at a blond British boy, or the sensation of a cooing newborn clinging to her chest. Despite these lingering psychic echoes, she accepts her new role and forbids herself from probing deeper into her true history. Watching from afar, Matsu’o observes his creation with pride, convinced he has forged the ultimate loyal assassin.

Within the Chaste’s fortress, members Stone and Palm reflect on how close the world once came to falling to the Hand. Palm, whose training focuses on healing arts, speaks of tending to a particular “patient.” Psylocke infiltrates the stronghold with cold efficiency, scaling frozen cliffs and swiftly defeating Stone. She is then confronted by other members of the Chaste—Flame, Wing, Shaft, Claw, and Star. Palm retreats to her patient, whom she must protect while continuing the healing process. Psylocke’s true target is finally revealed: Elektra Natchios, lying unconscious and defenseless within a healing pool.

PSYLOCKE vs. ELEKTRA?! Marvel reveals a lost chapter of X-Men history in ‘Psylocke: Ninja’

AITP!: This January, Marvel is taking fans back to one of the most mysterious and electrifying chapters in X-Men history. Psylocke: Ninja is a brand-new five-issue limited series from writer Tim Seeley (Rogue: The Savage Land) and artist Nico Leon (Marvel Rivals: Infinity Comic), exploring Betsy Braddock’s transformation into the Hand’s deadliest assassin — and her first fateful encounter with Elektra.

Set in the aftermath of Psylocke’s infamous rebirth in the early ’90s, the story dives into what really happened before she rejoined the X-Men. Torn between her telepathic identity and her new ninja body, Betsy faces a brutal test when Marvel’s deadliest assassin comes for her — and the two icons collide in a battle of precision, power, and purpose.

“This is the spiritual successor to Rogue: The Savage Land,” said Seeley. “We’re revisiting iconic X-Men moments and asking, what haven’t we seen yet? The idea of tying Psylocke’s Hand era into Daredevil’s world — and Elektra’s — just made perfect sense. My god, it all fits.”

For artist Nico Leon, this project is a dream come true. “I’ve always loved ninjas — the study of action, rhythm, and movement,” Leon said. “Diving into Psylocke and Elektra’s martial roots feels like being a kid again, sword in hand. Every panel is a joy to draw.”

Fans can look forward to a main cover by Derrick Chew, variant covers by Juan Frigeri and Nogi San, and a special foil edition by Dike Ruan. Psylocke: Ninja #1 slashes into comic shops this January — and it’s shaping up to be one of the fiercest face-offs in X-Men lore.
