Battle of The Atom – Chapter 6 Spoilers

Chapter 6 – All-New X-Men #17: Years from now – Dazzler the most recognizable, liked and trusted mutant of the last twenty years is elected the first mutant president of the United States of America with the support of her fellow X-Men. Before Dazzler delivers her victory speech, she's brutally murdered. This causes Beast to resent the human race and most likely led to the X-Men's split into two different factions.

Even more years from now – Magik, teen Beast and teen Iceman arrive at the Jean Grey School and are welcomed by the future X-Men: Colossus, Jubilee, Sir Iceman, "Iron Man", "Cloak", Quentin Quire and Kymera. Jubilee tells them to go back to the present, but Magik insists on asking about the other Future X-Men group. They stress that they cannot tell what will happen in the future. Sir Iceman reveals that the Ice Hulk is an aspect of Bobby's powers. Jubilee doesn't want to help, but Colossus says they're also partly responsible for this mess.

Present – Back to Cyclops' Xavier School in Canada, Magik arrives with Jubilee's team of Future X-Men.

Battle of The Atom – Chapters 1 & 2 Spoilers

Chapter 1 – X-Men: Battle of The Atom #1: Magik time-travels to the future to see if their future was worth fighting for. At the Jean Grey School, Cerebro detects a new mutant - a very powerful one at that. Kitty takes the original X-Men with her to stop her - Animax - who's creating monsters and destroying the city. A Sentinel appears and attacks them. Cyclops and his X-Men arrive to help and both teams battle the Sentinel. They succeed, but at the last minute the Sentinel shoots against Teen Cyclops, which nearly kills him. As his life is about to end, the Old Cyclops ceases to exist. Triage heals Teen Cyclops and brings him back to life, resulting in the Old Cyclops appearing again. At the School, the X-Men decide it's too risky to have the original X-Men in the present and want them to go back to the past. They are not happy about this, especially Jean who's made up her mind about not going back. Suddenly, the X-Men from the future arrive warning that they'll stop the X-Men from making a mistake that will doom the mutant species.

Chapter 2 – All-New X-Men #16: The X-Men from the future warn that letting the X-Men from the past to stay in the present was a mistake that must be reversed. They reveal that sending them back now will prevent a series of events that lead to... Suddenly, Wolverine is forced to pop out his claws and attack the future X-Men. A battle ensues between the two factions. Logan says that it wasn't his doing and that Jean was the only one able to force him to do this. Everyone realizes that Jean and Teen Cyclops have ran away. While the future and present X-Men were busy arguing, Jean talked telepathically to Teen Beast and Teen Cyclops about her suspicions of something wrong going on as the minds of the future X-Men were blocked. Beast refuses to run away with her, but Cyclops accepts it. They take the Blackbird to do so. The present and future X-Men decide to go after them even though Storm and Wolverine suspects Jean only ran away because she picked something up in the minds of the future X-Men. Rachel is upset that there's somebody wearing a Xorn mask, considering Xorn killed Jean. Xorna then reveals herself to be none other than adult Jean Grey from the future.

Marvel Reveals "X-Men: Battle of the Atom"

IGN: It's been a while since there's been a proper crossover in the X-Men Universe, but that's all about to change as the many threads of Brian Bendis' X-Men run thus far collide.

Announced at Marvel's X-Men panel today, X-Men: Battle of the Atom will see what happens when it's finally time for the original X-Men to go back to their own time -- with the help of the future X-Men. That's right, the present-day X-Men are going to get a visit from their future selves that have one mission: to send the original X-Men back where they belong and prevent a terrible future. I think at this point, perhaps the X-Men causing a horrible future is just going to happen no matter what they do.

The crossover is being handled by Bendis, Jason Aaron, Brian Wood, and will happen in these books: X-Men: Battle of the Atom #1, Uncanny X-Men #12-13, All-New X-Men #16-17, Wolverine & The X-Men #36-37, X-Men # 5-6 and X-Men: Battle of The Atom #2.

The story begins in September and ends in October, so it's going to be a very huge month of X-stories, to be sure. Issue #1 will be drawn by Frank Cho. Marvel promises that this story will pay off many of the threads that Bendis has been seeding since he began his run, and of course, set up a great many things to come.

X-Position: The "All-New" Brian Bendis

CBR: This week, Brian Michael Bendis continues his responses to fan questions about his other X-Book, "All-New X-Men," which features the original five X-Men transported through time to the present and trained by Kitty Pryde as they adjust to the shocking events of the last fifty years of continuity.

I saw in an interview that you eventually plan on having Psylocke come face-to-face with Teen Angel. It was said a few times during Rick Remender's "Uncanny X-Force" run that Betsy and Warren at least discussed the possibility of leaving the X-Men and starting a family together. I'm interested in how you see Psylocke's mental state pushing and pulling her when she has to bargain this new, hardened demeanor she's had in Sam Humphries' "Uncanny X-Force" and the obvious emotional toll it would take to see a young version of one's deceased true love. Will this be an exchange that quickly comes and goes, or something that bears down on them both for a while?

Brian Michael Bendis: I will only say that there are some big surprises coming for Warren Worthington III. You've laid out a whole scenario there. This is a great question, but you've already written your own answer that's fantastic and well thought-out. I'm going to show you something and see what you think of it.

Bendis Talks Angel (and Psylocke)

Marvel.com: To save the world, Warren Worthington III had all of his memories and personality wiped from existence, essentially hitting the reboot button on his own life. The teenage Angel appears at a time when the X-Men perhaps have still not fully come to terms with the void their longtime friend and teammate has become. Brian Michael Bendis explains how Angel fits into the X-Men's past and the future of All-New X-Men future.

Marvel.com: Angel and Jean Grey have a similar situation since both of their future selves are not around. Current Angel is basically a blank slate. Does young Angel get to find out all of the crazy stuff he’s been through with Apocalypse?

Brian Michael Bendis: That is something I’m going to be a little vaguer about because there’s some big stuff coming up in our second arc. People, by the very nature of the story, were very interested in telling Jean exactly what happened to her and having her react to it. Angel is completely freaked out by the fact that no one is talking about him, because no one knows what to say. And he’s like, "all right, you’re willing to tell Jean she died twice, but where am I?" There’s sort of a closure with Jean, because she’s gone. There’s not closure with Warren. It’s still happening, it’s a very fresh wound, the him rebooting himself thing. And no one knows how they feel about it. No one knows if they feel guilty about it, so that’s going to push the story forward in the second arc.

Marvel.com: Does he become very aggressive on trying to find out what happens? 

Brian Michael Bendis: Yep. It’s intense. Not to spoil everything, but they have to agree as a group to do the things they are doing now, and not everybody agrees, but they have been outvoted. So not everyone is desperate to be where they are right now. You have a character like Angel, who many not have even wanted to go [forward] in time in the first place, and he gets here, and now nobody’s talking. It’s spooky, to say the least.

Marvel.com: You previously mentioned that Wolverine meeting the teenage Jean Grey is going to be a big moment. Are we going to get to have that with Psylocke and teenage Angel?

Brian Michael Bendis: Yes, but that’s further down the line. Right now it’s about the immediate problem of his situation. But yes, as you can see just from the questions you are asking, there are a myriad of story possibilities that are emotional and legitimately threatening and boy oh boy, right?

Marvel.com: Any last thoughts about Angel before we move on? 

Brian Michael Bendis: Even though Jean is faced with quite horrible things involved with her death, there’s something even more shocking about what Angel’s faced with. Even though Beast postures more about his place as a mutant and as an X-Men, Angel isn’t a fully-formed adult yet and he is being faced with truly shocking things that he never thought he’d see about himself and his teammates.
