Hellions #5, Chapter 6
Spoilers: Empath is resurrected
at Krakoa and welcomed back by Xavier and Hope. Two days later, the Quiet Council
holds a meeting where Mr. Sinister proposes to send his Hellions to Otherworld
as none of them were among the chosen champions. He wants the Hellions to steal
the Arakki champions’ swords to force a forfeit. Shaw, Msytique, Exodus, Emma
Frost and Sinister himself vote in favor of his plan. Exodus proposes that Mr.
Sinister leads the Hellions, much against his wishes. The Hellions regroup, and
Havok warns that whoever dies in Otherworld cannot be resurrected. Meanwhile, Mr.
Sinister plans to send his own clone to Otherworld instead. The uncooperating clone
forces Sinister’s hand and both play rock paper scissors to decide who will go
to Otherworld; otherwise, the clone will expose Mr. Sinister’s illegal clone
farm to the Council. We never learn which Mr. Sinister went to Otherworld. Upon
crossing the gateway, Sinister asks for King Jamie Braddock’s permission to
travel through Avalon. Jamie accepts it and gives them a horse as a gift. Jamie
requests Sinister’s cape in exchange to seal their deal. The Hellions soon find
out that Jamie played them as the horse was stolen property of Saturnyne.
Sinister asks Empath to manipulate Saturnyne’s guards into cooperating with
them. Empath agrees only if they let him use his powers to turn Greycrow into
his pet. Sinister accepts Empath’s conditions and soon the Hellions embark on a
journey to the Kingdom of Dryador towards Arakko.
New Mutants #13, Chapter 7
Spoilers: It’s been an open secret for some time that Doug’s best friend, Warlock, was joined with him as his artificial arm. However, Saturnyne’s prophecy specifically called for both of them to take part in the tournament, with Warlock as Doug’s blade. With the exception of Warlock, no one believes that Doug is up to the task, not even Doug himself. Krakoa made two attempts to keep Doug on the island, in part because Krakoa will not have a voice in Doug’s absence. Exodus made a more violent attempt, and suggested that he would kill Doug to prevent his departure. Only the interference of Warlock and Krakoa forced Exodus to back off. For her part, Magik tried tough love with Doug by putting him through a crash course in swordplay. Magik remembers Doug’s death, when he was killed in part because his powers of language aren’t always useful in battle. Over the course of the issue, Doug was able to use that ability to read Magik’s body language. He even showed real improvement. That gave Doug a boost in confidence, and forced Magik to bring him down to Earth. The Arakkii are a warrior race who have fought every day of their lives in the darkest parts of Otherworld. Against an enemy like that, Doug can’t hope to win. The best he can do is try not to die and stay close to Magik when the fighting begins.
Cable #5, Chapter 8
Spoilers: When Saturnyne left a mental message that led Cable, Cyclops, and Jean Grey to the Peak, it turns out that may not have been meant to help the mutants. The former headquarters of S.W.O.R.D. was powered down and abandoned for a reason. And almost everyone on board was slaughtered by a brand-new threat. Jean encountered the lone survivor, and she soon learned about the Vescora, an alien race that acts like a virus given humanoid form. They want to "cleanse, dissect, and learn.” But if that’s not alarming enough, the survivor told Jean that the Vescora are “enemies that are not bound to our laws of physics." They invade, replicate, and move on. Under normal circumstances, the Vescora would be an extinction-level threat just by themselves. In the middle of a war with the Arakkii, their arrival is a recipe for disaster. Cable was able to remove the Light of Galador from the Peak’s engine, and once again depower the station. However, the portal to the Vescora’s realm remains, and it looks like it was created from the bodies of the Vescora themselves. At best, this is only a temporary solution for a problem that may soon get out of hand. Following their ordeal on the Peak, Jean and Cyclops seemed uncharacteristically calm and collected. Cyclops even assured his son that “we’re gonna be okay.” Somehow, that wasn’t very convincing. As for Cable, he took his place as the fifth champion of Krakoa.

Will Scott and Jean survive the aliens? Keep Jean away from the Phoenix for all to be ok.
Don't worry, the Phoenix will be busy this year with the AVENGERS... who apparently will have some sort of tournament to decide who will become its next host.
I really hope Captain America gets it, then becomes Dark Phoenix, then gets beaten up and incarcerated, just like he did to Cyclops and wanted to do to the other X-Men as well. If Iron Man, Hawkeye and Wanda get incarcerated as well, that's even better. Bunch of jerks.
Steve isn't the monster Wanda is for me. I have a soft spot for guinea pigs and I feel for Betsy and Steve. Thoughts and prayers to Wanda though she's a boogeywoman.
Well, the plot is adding relevant stuff and not just creating fillers. I love when the mutants are creative and intelligent so I really want to see how Doug's battle will turn out. The aliens seem pretty troublesome and I don't know how trustworthy Sinister might be in the circumstance given....
I agree. I mean, the Phoenix WAS an amazing plot device for a while, but ever since Morrison's run ended, it should have been left forgotten.
But at least now the Phoenix is no longer the X-Men's business, it's the Avengers'. Let them deal with it for once, and maybe they'll start appreciating the X-Men a little more after that. As for Jean, Rachel and Hope, they can feel relieved.
Agreed. I dont like when characters become overpowered like that. Its so boring.
Thats why I dont care for Betsy now being confirmed in the handbook to have all the typical CB powers (albeit Howard confirming she only has flight from the suit) so now she can fly, has high invulnerability, super strength on top of her tp and tk.
Won't be long before the SJWs demand she appear muscular and hulking because she has super strength. Theyre already making a fuss today that she still doesn't have a girlfriend after noticing the Cluster bs was referenced in her handbook bio.
Just because Humphries impulsively put her in a sex same relationship doesn't mean she HAS to be in a sex same relationship. The whole idea was that Betsy saw all the good in Cluster that she originally saw in Fantomex. Its more of a pansexual vibe. It was never alluded ever before that Betsy was into women along the lines of how its been heavily implied characters like Storm, Rachel, Kitty and Illyana have been on multiple occasions.
Also its possible she could prefer men over women. Also man or woman id prefer Betsy single, its so boring when they focus on romance in Betsy. At least with Warren they constantly were on adventures and he never betrayed her unlike the beloved Cluster that all the SJWs love so much. They always post the panels where they're in bed but never mention the fact that Cluster dumped Betsy for her own male counterpart clone and left her to be caught by the French police also pointed a gun at her to protect Jean Phillipe 🙄
I'm kinda on the verge of losing interest in Betsy. I'll see where Swords go but really I'm sick of all the pressure fans are putting on Marvel to make her in a same sex relationship and muscular.
Oh I've seen the Storm and Betsy shippers. Makes zero sense.
I LOVE Storm but imagine she and Betsy together? Betsy would be second fiddle to Storm or people would be mad that Betsy "the racist body stealer" is with a PoC etc the dumbassery never ends.
The fans see like one panel where the characters smile at each other and its over. They run with it "OMG LOOK AT THEM.. LOOK AT THEM. THEY SO CUTE. THEY LOVE EACH OTHER!!! LOOK AT THEM. LOOK AT THEM!!!" The typical generic idiotic replies you see all over sites like Twitter.
I loved the original Phoenix arc back in the days , but Marvel is abusing it. Jean as a host/clone made sense. Emma, Piotr,Illyana,Namor,Scott,the Stephord Cuckoos , The Avengers , etc don't.
Comics are old as time and to rehash the same old is what's left. Phoenix is a cheap trick to catch the eye with shiny armors and fireballs. The mutant nation isn't a new thing but Hickman made it bigger than life to feel different. Just tell me what hasn't Betsy done in Revanche body that this beeyotch will do. The answer is the same old unless Revanche undergoes a sex change op.
I loved the New Mutants chapter best this week. this weeks chapters have been better than last weeks imo. My predictions thus far: 1. Doug will be the Neville Longbottom of this whole saga and 2. Monet will end up sitting on Saturnyne's throne giving mutants a stronger foothold in Otherworld.
I mean, things change. Everything changes. I don't disagree with a lot that is said in these comments, but as an actual SJW (it's an actual thing, but it is being flung about as an insult) & nonbinary person - taking part in BLM actions, occupy, standing rock, etc - I think it is up to Disney to do what they want with it, as times change. People freak out when the Flaming torch wasn't yt, as he was in the comics - is an example.
I'm not necessarily writing this to read responses or argue online about this - As I said, I don't even disagree with the majority of what you said.
But bottom line is that nothing lasts forever. Everything changes. I just go back & read the outback etc.
