The fireworks signature in the last 2 panels reminds me of the butterfly signature lol
I just read X-Factor No. 1. I know many of y’all don’t mess with Leah after dysmorphic Betsy in AoXM, but that was just Nate-implanted, false memory. Meanwhile, she actually knows character history. Re: Rachel’s chronoskimming. Shit, maybe if she got her hands on Bets, we’d say precognition, telepathy, psycho-blasting, psi-knifing, telekinetically-augmented martial arts, and some cool spy stuff with British wit to boot versus this sword and shield-conjuring, armored husk. I enjoyed Leah’s take on all the characters and looking forward to more.
I really enjoyed Leah's take on Lorna and Daken and JP and Ray. I do agree that Ray could go further with her power, and I think Leah will show us that. I also have faith in how she is going to finally give David his due as he is such a neat yet neglected character. And while Trevor has always kinda grossed me out as a character, I liked how she used him in issue 1 and looking forward to how Leah will write for a Morlockesque kinda character with a very visible mutation. I'm really looking forward to more Fred, as well. And I dug that conversation between Lorna and Erik, and looking to see where non-crazy Lorna can go with sanity and without Alex.
I also don't mind the comedy. It feels more like old Excalibur combined with the greatness of Peter David's X-Factor. And like Peter, Leah is character-driven instead of event-driven.
@Rahsaan, That's great to know! Lorna, Rachel and JP deserve to be written with all the respect and character development they can get. So does Prodigy, by the way (he's part of the new X-Factor, right?).
And I have no problem with some comedy in comic books (it doesn't always work - but then again, seriousness doesn't always work, either), so this looks promising!
yeah I wish Leah would write Betsy - Leah is doing fantastic stuff with Rachel
@randybear everyone except Betsy has a butterfly signature! Hilariously offensive.
@Rahsaan I hope Leah Williams wrote Betsy this way due to Nate and his influence. Your points are on point. The spy Betsy has been on my wishlist for a long time and the psychoblast well it's like the desert missing the rain, more than welcome.
I wish Leah does something unique with Daken. For years Daken has been the angry mongrel with daddy issues and needs to evolve past that. Lorna is in need of a good characterization far from the psychotic girlfriend with daddy issues.
Same 100%
I'll pass on Leah writing Betsy. Id rather Hickan or Zeb Wells wrote her. Why does a woman HAVE to write Betsy?
Besides Leahs script specifically had Betsy state she felt beautiful in Kwannon's body and not so much in her own. How would how she felt in Kwannons body be someone else's memory especially if the switch back hapoened prior to AoX. Yall can pretend to blame it in other peoples memories but Leah's intention of integrating body dsymorphia in Betsy was there.
@randybear was the body dysmorphia intentional or lack of understanding? Leah could not wrap her head around why Betsy had so many offers to move back into her biological body and she turned down every opportunity. Fiction goes awry by making wrong assumptions. To the untrained eye Betsy's stubbornness and pride are invisible.
Leah is dumb for trying to justify what was editorial/marketing mandate for years.
Wait this happens before or after the reality warp?
@Jaime Braz shake your head and witness. Truth is Marvel told Leah to conjure a cheap excuse for Betsy to glorify the Ninjalocke hag and soften the race swap brunt.
Bingo. Seems like Williams, Hill and Howard were all mandated by editorial aka Jordan Big Mac White and extra fries Cebulski, to blame or at least make Betsy state on panel its her fault it happened. Its fucking gross.
I seethed when Chris Claremont changed Betsy. The death of the Coco Chanel of the X-Men was devastating. The smart leader was replaced by a botched product full of insecurities. It was never fixed and another slap in the face hit from Nicieza and Lobdell. Revanche was already appropriating Betsy in the 90s. She used her empathy to start infighting in the team and wore Betsy's face and body to add insult to injury. I don't care if Revanche was told to do it because she had chosen the evil side of the Hand and betrayed her clan yakuza. Betsy was dragged into the ish of Revanche and the editors better stop putting words in Betsy's mouth that give free pass to the ninja hag. I had high hopes for the X-Tremists from the covers artwork and hype but it was a piece of trash botching Betsy and the others harder. Five issues of a pregnant rat woman padlocked in a basement, Betsy flirting with Blob on a dining table and Northstar with Bobby and Rictor having a night out was a waste of natural resources, money and time. Period.
What a sad final story of Betsy as Psylocke and the last of her butterfly. Plus the art was terrible.
