I've submitted my question and a few of thoughts. By the way, has Betsy been revealed as part of the upcoming swimsuit special? She was a supermodel after all, it'd be weird for her not to be included.
No Betsy is not confirmed for the swimsuit but Kwannon is as she’s associated with the bikini looks Betsy used to wear.
It’s sad that Kwannon is injected everywhere these days she isn’t just appearing monthly in one ongoing she appears several times a month and has a solo series meanwhile we are begging the office for Betsy to be included ANYWHERE at this point. This is why Betsy as CB isn’t working and is so detrimental to the character. It’s impossible to market the title Captain Britain there is lack of interest in the lore and most people confuse her with Captain Carter.
We really need to be asking for her to move on from the mantle it’s proven no favors for. Betsy she’s only lost relevancy, also would love to see her do stuff without Rachel once and a while it’s become so predictable
Betsy Braddock’s current direction doesn’t feel true to who she is. The relationship with Rachel Summers isn’t the issue — queer inclusion in comics is important and necessary. The problem is how rushed and forced this all feels, like another shift placed on Betsy instead of something that grows from her character.
She’s spent years struggling to reclaim her identity — from the body swap with Kwannon to finally getting her own body back. She had a chance to be Psylocke again, to define herself on her own terms. Instead, the codename was handed off, and she was placed in the Captain Britain role — which, let’s be honest, feels like another body swap. Another imposed identity. Another layer between us and who she really is.
Both the Hand costume and the Captain Britain suit have ended up defining how she acts and how she is perceived — more like roles she’s been forced to play .
For me, Betsy is a character who would never settle down with anyone for too long. She has the heart of an adventurer, not a domestic goddess. Now, sure, one could argue people change, and maybe she wants to settle down — fair enough. But this is comics, and honestly, that sounds boring. I could also argue that relationships often get predictable and stale. That doesn’t mean people shouldn’t have them, but I just don’t want to read about it.
The relationship with Rachel only adds to the feeling that she’s been softened and boxed in. Betsy used to have this intense inner voice — full of conflict, strength, and wildness. Now she feels domesticated and like she’s playing a role instead of living a story. And I think that was Tini Howard forcing her own story onto Betsy.
Betsy doesn’t need a borrowed name, a legacy costume, or a forced romance to matter. She’s always been strongest when she’s flawed, fierce, and fully herself.
If I could tell the writers one thing, it’d be: FREE BETSY. Let her own her story, not just wear someone else’s.
@Banquo, you can tell them. What you wrote here is so eloquently accurate. Why not send it to Office X?
Definitely wrote in. Hope to see Betsy in something soon, hopefully written something written by Thorne.
Ita on what @Randybear and @Banquo40 wrote & I agree with @Rahsaan about sending those comments in to the X-Office :)
Adam: I wrote in! I think Betsy's Captain Britain transition had good intentions - essentially letting her take over an existing IP and make it her own (look what the Captain Marvel glow did for Carol Danvers). But I also agree with you folks and the Marvel editors that it's been a failure - I don't think readers, particularly American readers, have ever cared about Captain Britain.
What I'd love to see is a storyline where Betsy is forced to leave the CB corps while retaining some of the distinctive aspects she's picked up over the past few years - flying, wearing armour, using magic, the starlight sword - and reintroducing her with a new name and look. I suggested she be called "Monarch" to pay tribute to her knight in shining armour persona and of course the whole butterfly connection.
Not exactly interested in seeing this current version of her character. Butch Captain Britain in the bulky armor with Rachel just isn't exciting to me. I would prefer a different girlfriend if she has to be in a lesbian relationship. Can they retcon the last few years and go back to the 2019 version of Betsy? Put her back on a main team and give her HER friends back. All that history with her family of friends and they just pushed everything to Kwannon...
The more I think about it, the more I wish Lady Mandarin had been Karma instead. That way, Betsy never had to be Asian, she could've still had her original look with updated outfit, and the X-Men would still get their psychic ninja in Karma. For Betsy? Keep her as Psylocke for a while, move her back to Excalibur, work with Brian and co. and when time comes, have her be Captain Britain once again but less contrived. Could just be a story where Brian got hurt so badly nobody else could take up the mantle except for Betsy. The problem with her original tenure as Captain Britain was that Brian was alive and well, just retired, and she never picked up the Amulet of Right in a mystical dream the way it's supposed to be a Captain Britain. She was forced into the role by RCX. However, in this imaginary scenario, with Brian being ill this time she would have every right to be given the dream and become Captain Britain in a more proper and noble way.
And we could have a longer history with Betsy and Rachel, minimizing the amount of complaints regarding this couple ever since they got together in recent times! Oh, what a better, more streamlined timeline that would be.
Daud, sweetie, here is not a good place to troll.
I didn't troll. Wasn't it what happened? Was there anything that I missed historically?
Very easy to see. If your wish had come to pass, Betsy Braddock wouldn't have had a tenth of her remaining fanbase nowadays.
That's true, but I'd rather that than having to fight over her spot in contemporary comics.
