Brevoort Teases Betsy Braddock’s Return at SDCC; Thorne's Pitch Officially Dead

Earlier today at San Diego Comic-Con, Marvel officially unveiled Age of Revelation — the next major X-Men era set ten years in the future, where Doug Ramsey has inherited Apocalypse’s legacy and reshaped the world under a dark vision of mutant supremacy.

While 16 new titles were announced for this bold new timeline, Betsy Braddock was notably absent from all covers, teasers, and solicitations released so far. For fans of Betsy, it was a disappointing silence — until one key moment.

LZ, co-host of the podcast Another Relaunch, asked Tom Brevoort directly about Betsy Braddock during the panel, and shared the following on social media:

LZ further clatified: "He said he gets asked A LOT about Betsy and that they were talking about a pitch on their way to the convention that they’ll probably end up doing for her. He wouldn’t say what it was."

It’s not a confirmation — but it’s the most hopeful sign yet that Betsy is on Marvel’s radar, and that something new might be in the works.

In the meantime, in less encouraging news, X-Force writer Geoffrey Thorne confirmed on the CBR Forums that his own pitch for a Betsy book has been rejected. He wrote:

"The Betsy pitch is officially dead. I was going to wait on telling you guys but I thought that would be kind of cruel. I found out yesterday. Sorry folks. And, no, I have no idea what, if any plans Marvel has for her. At some point in the next few months I'll put up a MY TAKE post on the Patreon. Go have a look at my IRON FIST take to see how it might look. Sorry, guys."

We’ll be watching very closely. Keep emailing the X-Office at officex@marvel.com 🦋

Dang i am conflicted,
I'm happy they are discussing her next move, but i was really hoping Thorne was the one to do it.

He definitely wrote an amazing Betsy imo. I hope someone equally as talented gets ahold of her.

Yeah Im pretty fucking upset because even just giving Geoffrey Thorne another shot with a 10 issues mini series where he knows he has an endpoint I think would have did wonders for him as a writer.

Sad that it's not gonna be Thorne's pitch, because he really got Betsy. But at least editorial knows we want to see her. I'm waiting for Thorne's pitch when he posts it

I really hope they revive the Thorne pitch he's the only one I trust with Betsy

He said they were discussing a pitch for Betsy on the way to SDCC does this mean the writer was also attending the con? Curious to see if we could possibly narrow it down but who knows. Also he could have been communicating with anyone via email etc lol this is exciting but it’ll be a while before we see this come to fruition

I've been thinking that Betsy could be in the new title Exiles, announced for winter 2026.

I doubt it, it stems from the Imperial event and will most likely follow Xavier and family

Really hate that Kwannon literally took everything Betsy is or was. Keep the ninja but give Psylocke back to Betsy. Seriously.

Marketing at its finest. Kwannon wouldn’t be shit without the title Psylocke, the butterfly telepathy knife etc basically all the stuff she took from Betsy if all those things were removed what is left of Kwannon? She’s really really boring

Thankfully, her solo tanked and is now canceled. This is how they’ll realize that 'Ninja Psylocke' isn’t the sales draw they think she is.

Totally agree — they really thought the look alone would carry the book, but that only goes so far. Kwannon wasn’t developed enough to lead a solo series, and it felt like they hoped people would latch on just because she looked like “classic Psylocke.” But fans didn’t love Psylocke just for the ninja aesthetic — it was Betsy’s complex story that gave the character real depth.

Let’s be honest: Kwannon spent years without her own identity — editorially speaking, why would she want to adopt someone else’s codename and butterfly symbol?

And yeah, some fans liked the old ninja suit, but that look is gone now. Give her a new, more respectful uniform and those fans lose interest. So all they kept were the name, psi daggers, and butterfly — which just ended up upsetting Betsy fans. With the only priority being to preserve the Psylocke brand, they alienated the core audience.

I honestly think the writers and editors would like to reimagine Kwannon and give her a unique voice and style — but my guess is that, at least right now, the “ninja Psylocke” brand is too tied to merch and licensing. So there’s probably pressure to keep things status quo, even if it’s creatively limiting.

I read some of the new series — and honestly, the only time I was interested was when they mentioned Betsy (which happened a lot). That kind of says it all.
