In a recent response on his Substack, Senior Editor Tom Brevoort acknowledged fan support for Betsy Braddock and the enthusiasm surrounding her portrayal in X-Force, but expressed uncertainty about her long-term direction as Captain Britain. He stated:
Tom Brevoort: “The outpouring of support for Betsy Braddock has been nice to see. But that said, it wasn’t enough to keep X-FORCE going at the level that it would have needed to in order to succeed, so while there are plenty of vocal fans of her treatment in that book, there weren’t enough of them to keep it going. In terms of Betsy’s role as Captain Britain, I’m not convinced that that’s the best role for her long-term, but for the moment that’s where she stands.”

Finally, an editor with common sense! Being Captain Britain isn’t good for her in the long run!
Alright friends, he is aware now that Betsy isn’t a good choice for CB. Let’s really drive the point home by continuing to politely echo this sentiment to him!
If you’re on twitter and you see a well worded post on Betsy please tag Marvel and Brevoort, it’s the most effective thing you can do on twitter.
I wouldn't mind Betsy moving on from the CB title, while Thorne had a good balance of Betsy and CB, I'd still prefer for her to remain Betsy. She will always have that part otherworlder side to her, but she doesn't need the mantle.
X-Force worked because Betsy was functioning as Psylocke 97% of the time, she was only CB for three pages.
I think they should lose Captain Britain mantle from Betsys. And that might open some new narrative doors. Problem is, what’s left for her? Right now, without the role, Betsy ends up sharing the exact same psychic powers—and even visual signatures—with Kwannon. That’s not just redundant, it’s creatively limiting for both characters.
And here's where it really gets murky: from a story and continuity standpoint, there’s no real reason why Kwannon would want to take on the name “Psylocke” or use Betsy’s old power set. After everything she’s been through—after finally getting her body and identity back—why would she adopt the codename and tools of someone else’s life? It doesn’t track emotionally or narratively. It only makes sense from a licensing or brand standpoint, not from an editorial one.
That’s where the editors need to be brave.
If Marvel truly wants to develop Kwannon as her own character—she needs a new codename, a new look, and a direction that feels entirely hers. She has the potential to be something really compelling, maybe even an anti-hero with a more complex moral path. But not if she’s locked into Betsy’s old look and codename.
Likewise, Betsy deserves more than to quietly fade into the background. Taking away the Captain Britain title without giving her back “Psylocke” or offering something new and meaningful risks making her disposable. And frankly, I worry she’ll be written out entirely or even killed off. Again.
Marvel doesn’t need two psi-dagger-wielding, butterfly-manifesting telepaths. It needs two distinct, fully-realized women with unique identities and arcs. Giving Betsy her codename back, and allowing Kwannon to evolve into something entirely new, would be a bold step in that direction.
I hope so.
Alright guys, the fans that love Betsy as CB have caught wind of the Brevoort comment and are sending in their arguments to keep her as CB. It’s our words against theirs so it’s super important to tweet Brevoort or email the xoffice!
I definitely will be writing for Betsy to give up CB and be written more in line with how Thorne wrote her, which was basically Dissasembled Psylocke :)
IDK without the Captain Britain mantle still is a different enough compared to the other telepaths; we just need a good writer. She is a STRIKE agent/spy with eldritch magic. Thats what will further differentiate her. We just need editorial to approve it and have a writer further distinguish her in this new era. And they need to give Kwannon something to fully make her her own person as well.
@Unknown I think that is what Thorne was doing and hopefully can continue to do down the road.
He had her possess her mutant psychic gifts along with innate magical talent (that did not come from her being CB but just herself...except the teleporting).
I hope a good writer (hopefully Thorne lol) can further continue down that line and have her give up the mantle.
Imo the Mantle has not done the character any favors in popularity and just does not imho fit Betsy's fiery personality.
Captain Britain has never been a good role for her, it's too small and doesn't really work in the X-Men Mythos
The other problem I see with Betsy keeping the CB mantle is that she can easily be confused with Captain Carter. I know, Peggy is in the What If timeline, but she is getting a lot more attention and I can easily see them throwing her into the main MCU. Both are British superheroes, both wear the Union Jack. And honestly, I like the way Peggy has been portrayed as CC over the way Betsy has been portrayed as CB. As a matter of fact I would like to see Betsy become a more polished, experienced version of Lizzie Braddock. Maybe Betsy needs to not have a distincitive costume for a bit and go underground and be a more of a secret operative type and slowly be built back to a costume wearing X-man again. And lose Rachel, so we can hear her cool inner monologue again, I said it before, I dont see Betsy tying herself to anyone for too long so it would be totally on type for her to dump Rachel.
I also forgot to say, I also agree with whoever said that most fans don't care strongly about CB to be honest (though I do like Brian).
P.S. saw this clip today.
Kinda cool :)
