AvX: Vs #5 Spoilers

Spoilers: The issue starts with Hawkeye searching the sky for Angel. Psylocke warns Angel telepathically that Hawkeye's mind is cloaked and hidden from her. Hawkeye spots Angel and shoots arrows at him, which Angel easily dodges in the air. After fighting for a bit, with neither at an advantage, Psylocke catches up with Angel. Hawkeye asks about Psylocke, and comments that she's 'cute'. Hawkeye threatens to fire an arrow into Psylocke's head, and not to gamble whether which is faster. Psylocke's telepathy or Hawkeye's arrow. Warren backs off for Psylocke's safety, and Hawkeye decieves him by shooting him point blank with an arrow, and flees. Psylocke runs to his aid. Later on Utopia, Angel recovers and fills in Emma Frost with what happened. Emma Frost simply comments, "to be continued, Clint Barton.."

Marvel Announces "Avengers Vs. X-Men" For 2012

LinkCBR: For months, Marvel Comics has been promising something big coming down the pike for readers invested in the Marvel Universe. The planned 2012 project has been described by Editor-in-Chief Axel Alonso as "not part of a cosmic event, but a Marvel Universe event," adding, "Very soon, we're going to reveal all. Three simple words that speak to the hardcore Marvel fan and the guy or gal on the street who's seen one or two super hero movies."

Today, those three words became clear: "Avengers Vs. X-Men."

In a story published on the USA Today website, the publisher announced a 12-part bi-weekly series debuting in April. The core "Avengers Vs. X-Men" title will be co-written by Marvel's "Architect" writers -- Brian Michael Bendis, Jason Aaron, Jonathan Hickman, Ed Brubaker and Matt Fraction -- and drawn by big name artists Frank Cho, John Romita, Jr., Olivier Coipel and Adam Kubert.

The appeal of the series is obvious, Alonso told the newspaper: "You've got two populations whose motivations are simple and understandable and defensible. That's part of the beauty of this. You're seeing a story that evolves out of 'What would you do?'"Link In a separate article, the mechanics of the title and its promotion were laid out, from each issue being scripted by one writer who then hands the story off to another for the next issue, to plans to integrate Google+ into the ongoing promotional efforts.

On a story level, the focus of 2009's X-Men "Second Coming" crossover, Hope Summers, will once again be the center of attention in "Avengers Vs. X-Men," as the presumed host for the returning Phoenix Force. In fact, it's the threat of the returning Phoenix Force that will instigate the conflict in the first place, Alonso says. "The Phoenix Force is the spirit of destruction and rebirth. It razes worlds to create something new. It's bad news if you happen to be living on the world about to be razed. It's great news if you're what's going to be the outcome of that world."

Also taking center stage is the Scarlet Witch, who, in many ways, instigated this conflict years ago when she used her reality-altering powers to all but erase mutantkind from the planet. Bendis, who scripts her story in the series' prologue issue, told the newspaper,"She's been on a road of almost impossible-to-perceive redemption over the last few years and now is going to come face-to-face with the Avengers."

Fraction Talks X-Books Future

CBR: On Saturday at the 2011 Emerald City Comicon, Brian Michael Bendis, Matt Fraction, Ed Brubaker and Jonathan Hickman appeared at a packed panel to discuss their plans for the Marvel U. A fan wanted to know more about the X-Men's future plans. As the team has been through so much over the past year, he was wondering what new direction the X-books could possibly take.

Fraction smiled at this and replied, "Boy, 2012 is a great year to answer that question. We have a really big idea that ate up two and a half days of our lives recently. It's the whole murder-marriage-death-birth cycle/saga, yet bigger and better and onwards and upwards."

"With all the [X-Men] storylines in the next twelve months, you'll start to see that they're all converging towards a single point. You'll see… we're getting there. Almost all the pieces are on the board."

Uncanny X-Men #527 Spoilers & Art

Spoilers: Psylocke and Cecilia Reyes travel to Mexico to track down one of the first mutants to manifest powers since M-Day. Gabriel Cohuelo starts thinking and moving so fast, only tranquilizers calm him down. Cecilia tells his parents Gabriel is in the proccess of becoming a mutant. The boys' apparent speed powers causes him to move so fast he disappears, so Psylocke tapps into Cecelia's powers to create a force field around his room so they would not lose him before Hope Summers could arrive to help. Hope enters his room and touches him, helping Gabriel to fully develop his powers.

After having dinner with Tony Stark, Emma Frost visits her prisoner Sebastian Shaw in the brig. Danger assures her that Sebastian will remain their secret. Maddison Jeffries tells Emma that Colossus needs her help. Piotr wants Emma to psychically connect Kitty and Colossus' minds, which she does, much to her dismay. She then has sushi with Namor, who tries to convince her that Cyclops is nothing more than a boy playing at being a soldier.

In Japan, Wolverine tells Scott he's worried about how Summers lives his life once the war is over. Logan wonders if Cyclops knows how to stop.

X-Men: Second Coming #2 Spoilers & Art

Chapter 1:
After destroying Bastion and the dome, Hope floats while every mutant gathers around her. For a moment, Xavier thinks this feels like his dream again, until it passes and Hope passes out. 30 hours later, Hope wakes up at the infirmary, where the X-Club is checking on all the wounded: Colossus, Archangel, Iceman, Karma, Magneto and Hellion. Hope asks Magneto if they think she’s dangerous, to what Erik tells her that sometimes is quite beneficial to be thought of as dangerous.

Chapter 2:
It’s Cable’s funeral and everybody gathers around his coffin. Cyclops mourns the death of his son, crying. Hope says that her father lived as a true soldier, so nobody needs to cry for him, even though she cries too. Afterwards, the kids want to comfort Hope, but Prodigy tells them that Hope is all of them, so whatever they want to say to her, she already probably knows. Cyclops tells Rogue that because of her they could be burying Hope instead of Cable, and that Nightcrawler and Cable’s deaths would be in vain, so he demotes her: Rogue’s off of any strike team.

Chapter 3:
Storm finds Logan having a beer in Kurt’s room. They talk about X-Force. While Storm condemns their actions, Wolverine says they did what was needed to be done and had they killed more of them, Kurt would still be alive. Storm is sorry to hear that because that might be the last drink they share together. Afterwards, Logan meets X-23. He tells her that she’s off of X-Force and that it’s about time that she makes her own decisions. Finally, Wolverine meets Cyclops. Scott tells him about how Storm, Colossus, Iceman, and Xavier came to him to talk about X-Force. While Scott doesn’t have any regrets about what they did, he says there’s no place for X-Force in the future of the X-Men. Logan agrees with him, but as soon as Cyclops leaves, he gathers his new X-Force: Archangel, Psylocke, Fantomex and Deadpool. He says there’s only one rule: No one can know.

Chapter 4: Scott is writing a letter to Amanda Sefton, when Iceman tells him that Beast is leaving again. Namor accuses Beast of turning his back on his people. Meanwhile the kids start a bonfire at the end of the island. Emma watches Hope around the fire, when suddenly Hope displays the Phoenix raptor and stares at her. Emma immediately remembers the vision she had of Jean in the White Hot Room during the Sisterhood arc. She runs to Scott to tell him about it, but he interrupts her saying that they were right: Cerebro's picked up five new mutant signatures from around the globe. Five lights.

Uncanny X-Men #525 Spoilers & Art

Spoilers: The issue starts with Hope confronting Cyclops about sending Cable into the future. She tells him that she hates him more than anything for killing her "father" and her eyes begin to glow red. Hope storms off and Cyclops tells Emma that Hope's eyes looked just like his. Cut to San Francisco outside the dome. The Fantastic Four arrive as the Avengers do and they begin to analyze the dome. Dr. Nemesis and Iron Man inform us that the dome is "impregnable" nothing can get in or out and the X-Men are going to be killed soon by the Nimrods. The X-Men (including Psylocke) fend off the Nimrods in the city, meanwhile in the future X-Force realize that all the X-Men are dead in that future. Cypher informs X-Force that Bastion's forces are sending the strongest Nimrod's to the past and five at a time. Back in the present Cyclops orders Xavier to bring Legion into the fight against the Nimrods and asks Rogue to protect Hope on Utopia. The Avengers, Fantastic Four and the X-Club realize they can't destroy the dome. Dr. Nemesis predicts that everyone inside the dome will be dead in a few hours.

Psylocke Spoilers: Betsy only appears in that one page where she takes down the Nimrod with Iceman. Fantomex finishes the Nimrod off after Iceman freezes it.

X-Position: Matt Fraction

CBR: Matt Fraction was happy to jump into the fray to answer questions from fans in today's X-Position.

Mr. Fraction, I believe you stated in an interview that you kept Psylocke Asian to retain ethnic diversity in the cast. I assume you do know that Betsy Braddock is basically an upper class British white woman wearing an Asian body, right? That quote from you has bothered me, and I was hoping you could make me see how a white woman made to look Asian represents any kind of ethnic representation at all...

Matt Fraction: Gosh, what could possibly sound too negative there...? The entire point of this "resurrected" (that's not quite the right word, but I'm going with it) Psylocke is that she's a synthesis, a true synthesis, of both aspects - both individuals - that made up the character in the past. Far from being "an upper class British white woman wearing an Asian flesh suit," as you say, this Psylocke, as seen in "Sisterhood," is something else entirely. Something new. What started in "Sisterhood" continues too; she'll be wrestling with her identity, on numerous levels, in "Uncanny" and elsewhere in the X-Universe soon.

Uncanny X-Men #524 Spoilers

Spoilers: Mutants all around Utopia are shocked by Nightcrawler's death, and some of them blame Hope. She can't take this pressure anymore and freaks out. Cyclops talks to her, and the only thing he asks of her is to stay alive. Scott then tells his X-Men he doesn't want Kurt's death to be in vain. He asks Angel to prepare his body and Iceman to put together the religious rites. In the X-Prison, Donald Pierce fools Danger into thinking he's still locked, when in fact he's pretty much free. Bastions orders Pierce to destroy the X-Men's planes. He wants mutants to be stuck in Utopia. Later, Cyclops sends Cannonball's team to rescue Magik in Limbo, and the X-Club to figure out how to bring Bastion's towers down. Meanwhile, in the Sick Bay, Magneto wakes up from his coma and gets to know Hope better. By the time of Kurt's funeral, Beast arrives in the middle of the funeral procession and blames Scott for it. Everybody gathers around Kurt's coffin, as Iceman recites the lyrics of a song. Professor X, Storm, Beast, Colossus, Angel, Emma and Cyclops all remember Kurt with words, while his body is cremated. Wolverine then says he was his best friend and never treated him like an animal. He then warns Hope that she better be worth it.

Notes:
There's not much Psylocke this issue besides tiny little cameos, so I won't be posting any scans. And in case anyone is interested, Rogue is seen during Kurt's funeral. She must have returned to Utopia off-panel.
