Marvel Studios Rumored To Be Developing A Live-Action Captain Britain TV Series For Disney+

ComicBookMovie.com: Comic book fans have been waiting for Captain Britain to step into the spotlight in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and a new rumour claims the character is finally coming to Disney+.

A new rumour shared by scooper @MyTimeToShineH claims that a Captain Britain TV series is in the works for Disney+. The project is a series centered around Captain Britain, potentially replacing the previously rumored MI13 show. That's all we have to go on for now, though we'd be shocked if Marvel's MI13 and Excalibur comics don't influence what we see.

The last significant update on Captain Britain came from Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige nearly seven years ago when he said, "We have discussed it. There are a lot of actors that come in and ask about that part, so we’ll have to see." It's unclear what's taken so long, particularly as there have been several opportunities to add Braddock to the mix.

One actor who may have asked Feige about the role is former Superman, Henry Cavill. "I’m never going to say a Marvel character that is already being played by someone else because everyone’s doing such an amazing job," he said in 2021 when asked about possibly joining the MCU. "However, I have the internet and I have seen the various rumors about Captain Britain and that would be loads of fun to do a cool, modernized version of that - like the way they modernized Captain America. There’s something fun about that, and I do love being British."

Captain Britain was created by Chris Claremont and Herb Trimpe and debuted in 1976. Endowed with superhuman abilities by the mystical Amulet of Right, Captain Britain is a patriotic hero who defends the UK and the Multiverse; however, it's Alan Moore's work on the character which put him on the map.

Rumor: 'Captain Britain and the Black Knight' Movie in Works From Marvel and Director Guy Ritchie

ComicBook.com: Could Marvel’s Captain Britain be headed to the big screen? A new rumor suggests it's possible, but fans may not want to get too excited.

Ain’t It Cool News reports that a source the site refers to as “Super Grip” has tipped them off to the unannounced Marvel Studios film. Captain Britain and the Black Knight would reportedly be directed by Guy Ritchie. The studio is said to be trying to take advantage of the studio vacancies created by Danny Boyle’s departure from the next James Bond movie.

"I work at various movie studios in the UK and have been situated at Pinewood for a few weeks, and I'm moving to Cardiff on a project soon. I haven't seen anything about this online anywhere, so I thought id send the info on to you: Space at Pinewood has been booked for November & December 2018 to hold auditions for a Marvel project called Captain Britain and the Black Knight. The name of the director booked in for all these dates is Guy Ritchie. Marvel seems to be moving fast with it to fill in the space left behind by Danny Boyle's aborted Bond 25. Everyone is excited because it looks like another few months of solid work when we thought we would have to wait a while."

For those unfamiliar with the character, Captain Britain is Brian Braddock. Christ Claremont, Fred Kida, and Herb Trimpe created him in 1976 for Marvel UK. Braddock was empowered by Merlyn and his daughter Roma to defend Britain. He was originally intended to appear only in the United Kingdom. Claremont later brought Captain Britain to American audiences as a member of the UK-based X-Men spinoff team Excalibur (Brian is not a mutant himself, but his twin sister Betsy, aka Psylocke, is).

Black Knight is likely referring to Dane Whitman, a Marvel Comics character created by George Tuska and Roy Thomas. Whitman comes from a family of supervillains, but chose to become a hero and joined the Avengers. Black Knight carries the mystical Ebony Blade. He has fought alongside Captain Britain due to their connections shared connection to the realm of Otherworld.

Fan-favorite mutant team Excalibur will make its Marvel Legacy debut in 2018, courtesy of Marc Guggenheim, Leah Williams and Alitha E. Martinez.

Rachel Summers, Captain Britain, Meggan, Kitty Pryde, Nightcrawler and possibly even Widget will reunite in the pages of X-Men Gold Annual #1, along with a new member of the team. It appears as though Brian Braddick and Meggan have a new baby!

“Since the launch of ResurrXtion, fans have been wondering when the classic Excalibur team would come together again,” editor Chris Robinson said in a statement. “With this Annual, Marc, Leah, and Alitha have painstakingly put together a love letter to them and the classic series we’re all still talking about!”

The England-based Excalibur debuted in 1987, starring in a deluxe edition one-shot before the team landed its own ongoing series in 1988. The annual’s cover art, illustrated by Excalibur co-creator Alan Davis, homages the first issue of the team’s original series from co-creators Chris Claremont and Davis.

The Story: This January, get ready for an X-Men story so big, Marvel enlisted two superstar writers to bring it to life. Written by Marc Guggenheim (X-Men Gold) and Leah Williams (Secret Empire: Brave New World) with art by Alitha E.
