“For so long, my life has been out of control. Chaos and serendipity, wrapped in insanity. I have suffered, I have lost. Not just my life, but my very soul, my self. But no more. Now I know who I am.” – Elizabeth ‘Betsy’ Braddock, daughter of Otherworld, mutant, telepath, telekinetic, defender of the realm and, above all, X-Man.

did they imply that she was still capable of the psycho blast while in that body ? cool
She was capable of it. She did it to Warren during Remender’s X-Force. During the Dark Angel Saga before she stabbed him with the life seed. Opeña drew it with a hige butterfly though versus it being depicted as a glowing nimbus around her head as it was in the 80s, which I prefer. (I like the butterfly effect for when she is communicating and astrally projecting). That was the first and last time we saw Asian Betsy use that technique.
I love how the Leon draws the energy first forming at her fingers, and then in the next panel having it envelop her whole fist, and in the final panel, it’s fully manifested.
Based on the context of this scene, I am assuming that this is the very first time she ever created her psychic knife?
She also used it against Fantomex in the Cullen Bunn Uncanny run.
Thanks. I stand corrected. So she used it twice while “East Asian.” How did her power signature look when she used it the second time?
Also, so we are all on the same page, her psycho-blast is different from generic psi-bolts which we’ve seen her and other powerful telepaths do.
I saw a comment elsewhere noticing that the dialogue boxes change from pink to purple, indicating whose psyche is present. Pink for Betsy and purple for Kwannon. I find it kind of sad, I wish it was Betsy in the driver’s seat in these action scenes.
@Cheezeypeezy This is wrong, the writer himself said that the story is only about Betsy and her POV, that Kwannon isn't part of it.
What people didn't understand (or don't remember) is that Betsy is being controlled by the Hand.
At the beginning of issue #1, the dialogue is violet, showing Betsy in total control of her thoughts and actions. From the moment the Hand starts controlling her and the transformation happens, the dialogue color changes to purple, because Betsy has now been brainwashed and has become a weapon of the Hand.
In issue #2, the dialogue remains purple. After she uses the psychic knife on Elektra, she begins to remember who she really is, and then a back-and-forth of colors and thoughts begins between "the controlled Betsy" and the "real Betsy, free from control".
At the end of the issue, we see the dialogue remain purple as Betsy is being reconditioned to remain controlled, a weapon for the Hand, and it will probably be in the next issue that Lady Mandarin's "persona" will manifest, and after Wolverine helps Betsy break free from the control, the dialogue will return to violet.
Funny how some details still doesn´t fill in the mess. Spiral is supposted to never to be mentioned. However, the hair color...kwannon never hada purple hair... :) and yet...
Actually, Spiral was implicitly mentioned in issue #1. The Jonin said the Hand’s psychics would need extra help to pull off the body swap since they couldn’t do it alone.
That’s just Retconnon fans’ wishful thinking. They want her to be Betsy so bad. lol Purple is brainwashed Betsy, and pink is the real Betsy. Retconnon isn’t in this story, according to the writer himself.
Yes, she was able to unleash psycho blasts in the Asian body, but that was after her powers were restored to their full potential when Kwannon died. So the timeline is a bit wrong here. Before that, the powers were split unevenly between the two bodies. But I think this will be retconned anyway.
I meant before her powers were fully restored, should've clraified that
Stunning issue, speaking both as a Betsy and Kwannon fan.
And Elektra fan. XD
Well if it counts, Ninja Betsy also use psychoblast in the form of giant Butterfly (mothera size) in Charles Soule's Astonishing X-Men while being controlled by Shadow King and received multiple attacks from the military. She almost exploded if not Rogue come to absorb some of the psychic blast.
I finally was able to get both issues.
Very well done, and I definitely appreciated the old lady actually specifically acknowledging that Betsy was a victim in all of this.
