And it’s really messed up that this article says “her first in 14 years,” as if the series has the same protagonist as the last solo series.
@Kiki, @randy, @Daud, I’m starting to see what you are talking about regarding a deliberate push to erase Elizabeth. This sucks. And I say that no just as decades long Betsy fan but also as someone who is interested in Kwannon as a viable character with her own identity versus grafting everything that is Betsy’s onto her.
Interesting cover! And it's nice that Deadpool is seen as part of the X-verse instead of the "bigger" Marvel universe even though he isn't a mutant (...he still isn't a mutant, right? After Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch were revealed as "non-mutants" and Ms. Marvel was revealed as a mutant instead of a inhuman, I'm not sure if Wade was changed as well).
As for the teaser about a new Psylocke (Kwannon) series... well, I'm sure everyone here will have plenty to say about it, so I'll actually comment on something else in this news: I didn't know that DAZZLER will also get a solo series of her own! I'm glad for her; it's scary how Dazzler was once Marvel's most popular female character and Marvel pretty much destroyed her popularity and turned her into a D-list X-character. Unfortunately I don't think her book will be a success, but hopefully it will lead to more projects featuring her and to more readers getting to know her and becoming her fans!
(in fact, whenever Betsy and Rachel break up, I wouldn't mind if Betsy's new romantic partner were Dazzler - Alison was created by Claremont, so she's definitely at least bisexual as well. Nightcrawler and Colossus would be nice choices, too)
Kwannon is Hedy from Single White Female and she won't rest till she absorbs Betsy whole Betsy's powers and life. The replacement process started in 2019 and going strong
More people awake to Marvel's shenanigans using Revanche as a Betsy substitute.
Warning to Kwannon fans if you loved her you'd help your idol find her true self and visuals. Now's a little too late. Watch Kwannon dye her hair purple and lose the last Japanese thing that made her Asian 🤣🤣🤣🤣
It's funny how they're using purple for the Psylocke logo too lol they can't make her hair purple so they make her outfit and logo purple. I'm honestly shocked the butterfly wasn't integrated into the logo too.
Also it's funny how fans swear only Betsy was a killer and did bad things in Kwannons body but clearly now Marvel is going to lean into her being a killer too. Like damn is there anything left that Kwannon hasn't taken from Betsy outside purple hair (even though artists like Mark Brooks are too dumb to realize Kwannon's hair is black)
@Randybear that crazy cause one of Kwannon's first appearances is her in Betsy's body as an assassin & her "instructor" or whoever he is to her, tells her all the killing she did was unnecessary and needless.
Again this was in Betsy's body smh lol.
She said some nonsense like what better way to prove herself.
The woman was an assassin in both bodies, how would they think that Betsy was the "killer" between them? Lol
Because the big Kwannon stans are mostly new readers haven't read anything outside of Krakoa. They don't know any or the context of the swap and go off what was said in Fallen Angel's and TH Excalibur regarding their history. Marvel chose to destroy Betsy and dismantle her slowly instead of giving us "two characters!" Clearly the push and focus is on Kwannon and that is how it will remain.
Kiki and I warned about this happening for years but were always told we were wrong that Betsy is Psylocke and it'll all go back to how it was etc etc Nope this is different and "special" circumstance
@Randybear then that's even worse because if they didn't read anything outside of Krakoa, then they wouldn't have cared at all if Kwannon was an empath with her own skill sets and powers, and distinctive look lol.
She would have been brand new to them anyway.
Such a waste & mess.
As for Betsy, I think they were off to a great start with Dissasembled, but Howard had to come and make that pitch about Apocalypse & the rest was history.
I do wonder how Betsy would have done under another writer and not been forced to be CB.
I'm hoping X-Force is a step in a much needed direction.
I know they technically just gave Betsy a solo too, I guess , but just sucks it was still written by Howard imho.
I wonder how Betsy would have done as CB under a writer that didn't isolate her from every other X-book (and from every other Marvel universe book as well). I prefer her as Psylocke, but maybe we would have eventually warmed up to her becoming CB if she was written well and got meaningful stories.
Steve Foxe did a good job with her, I guess, but it was hard reading his XMU story and realizing that, as good as it was, it was basically the "lesser" story where Marvel threw all of the X-Men that weren't considered important enough to be in Fall of the House of X and Rise of the Powers of X.
randybear Brevoort dyes her hair purple then kisses bye bye proud Japanese Kwannon. And hi to generic whitewashed Betsy2.0Kwannon. They'll abuse the butterfly like Brian Edward Hill turned Kwannon to a Winx Club cheesecake fluttering like a blue arsefly searching for a daughter she never had.
You see the truth and speak it others call you a nutcase how it always goes down.
X-Man I tried to find a sympathy bone for Kwannon to like her one bit but editors and Marvel people won't allow me. Heck I wouldn't even want to be a fan of hers and see her be happy stuck in ripping off Betsy to a tee.
Jaime Braz had the most brilliant idea that they've posted on a different entry on this blog regarding what could or should've been Kannon's power and power signature. Empathic power with cherry blossom energy around her face every time she uses it. That would be great! Honestly, plenty of writer and artists really don't get or they don't care about the whole Nicieza retcon as something that Nicieza had "fixed" by, well, killing Kannon with Matsu'o's blade (plus the legacy virus eating Betsy's body which she was inhabiting at that time, that was sad). They really should've brought her back with her original ability that was emphatic rather than turning her back into Betsy 2.0.
Also, regarding Japanese woman's hair, it'd actually be so much more fun if Kannon get to change her color every once in a while. The Harajuku culture is alive and well amongst many Japanese, especially the women, and it could be awesome to see Kannon as a secret assassin for hire who would dye her hair different colors every time just to fit in each distinct environment.
“For so long, my life has been out of control. Chaos and serendipity, wrapped in insanity. I have suffered, I have lost. Not just my life, but my very soul, my self. But no more. Now I know who I am.” – Elizabeth ‘Betsy’ Braddock, daughter of Otherworld, mutant, telepath, telekinetic, defender of the realm and, above all, X-Man.

@Rahsaan wasn't Fallen Angels her series too?
Kwannon that is.
Not sure why it'd say that either way.

He did a much better job with her as CB, but I'm ready for her to leave that behind.
I'm hoping the new writer in X-Force writes Betsy in character and establishes another codename for her.
I like the name Psyche, but I also admit the name "Lady Braddock" has kinda been growing on me.
Kinda sounds very proper, but also like it could be an assassin or something lol.
