@Kiki M. Ishola Betsy using her psi weaponry is preferable to the Starlight. She has rarely showcased her native mutant powers since she donned the Captain Britain mantle. It's a travesty to be seen as a Phyla-vell mimic.
How would you describe Betsy's power levels and capability since Excalibur #1?
If I were a new reader and Excalibur was my only exposure to Betsy I would assume the following..
-Low level, bare minimum functioning telepathy -Standard level telekinetic, creates small shields, occasionally levitates objects nothings major like say a mountain 😉 -She can fly due to her suit -Creates a sword from psychic(?) energy, nothing special just serves as a standard plain sword.
While we definitely haven't seen her use her powers to the best of her ability.
We have seen "A" describe Betsy as a very powerful psychic being and Kwannon herself mentioned how psychically powerful Betsy is in the issue she "rescued" Betts.
Also when Malice possessed Betsy's body I'm pretty sure she took down Rogue & Rictor with Betsy's abilities and also kinda mind controlled Brian.
So I think while Tini hasn't been great at displaying Betsy's psionic abilities at all, I think we are supposed to believe she is an upper level Psi based on the dialogue of others or even how someone else wielded her powers when she was possessed lol.
Forgot about how A described her was just thinking of what we have seen her actually do. So even if people think Howard is writing a good version of Betsy now doesn't negate that she can't write her powerset for crap.
@randybear yes making Faiza the new Captain Britain wielding the Excalibur is a more sane and welcome development. Brian was chosen to carry the Excalibur sword besides the Amulet of Right. However that decision needs continuity and lore knowledge.
@randybear fluctuating is the word that describes Tini Howard's understanding of Betsy's powers.
Howard likes to remind us she is well aware of continuity and bios yet she never has Betsy use mind blasts of telepathy, probing telepathy, astral telepathy in the form of Betsy's butterfly and actual telekinesis.
@X-Man The issue Betsy used her psi knife and butterfly under the influence of Malice was a statement. I wish Marcus To drew the butterfly with precision rather the abstract wings. It is intentional to reference the psychic knife and butterfly vaguely in context to Betsy.
Betsy is foremost a powerful telepath with mind blasting force and a precog mutant who channels her telekinesis into psi weaponry. It's simple as that.
Tell me it's the end of starlump sword and the kettle. And Tinis reign.
ReplyDeleteBetsy is Psylocke period.
Newsflash Chris Claremont will write for Legends Excalibur. I don't blame him Excalibur was destroyed and Betsy.
ReplyDeleteIs Betsy wielding Excalibur (the sword)? Or is that her TK sword? It's definitely not the Starlight Sword...
ReplyDeleteTo's art is beautiful, as always.

ReplyDelete@FSaker the Excalibur sword is in the possession of Faiza Hussein. From the knowledge I have.
ReplyDeleteI believe you're correct. I wish they would just give Faiza the mantle of CB and let Betsy be something else.

@Randybear I guess it depends.

Smh.

DeleteOh I agree lol.
DeleteI just think Tini thinks we are supposed to know Betsy is a strong psi and believes what she has written is adequate smh lol.

Right which is annoying cause she did use her Astral butterfly to communicate when Malice was possessing Betsy lol.
DeleteSo it almost seems intentional at this point smh lol.
