Finally! Holy shit, this reads and looks so good! I'm so pumped!
ReplyDeleteIt's cute to see that Betsy's niece likes her! And the writer reminding us that Betsy used to be a tomboy (and that she's still far from being girly).
ReplyDeleteAlso, remember that preview page some weeks ago showing Trinary looking at Gambit? Some of us thought she could be part of a love triangle with him and Rogue, but now it seems more likely that Apocalypse is ordering her to spy on Remy. I wonder why; maybe he wants to reawaken his former Horseman?
...and now I'm looking back at the solicits and just realized: the cover with Betsy kneeling in front of Apocalypse has the other team members by his side - and they are FOUR (Rogue, Gambit, Rictor and Jubilee).
ReplyDeleteCould this mean Apocalypse will turn them into his new Horsemen?
(I hope not; the Horsemen used to be a great concept, but the members changing so much takes away a lot of their impact - which is why, to me, only the first incarnation and the Remender one are noteworthy)
The art is amazing and the writing so far great. No narration captions and convoluted memos. I love it! The discussions and art speak on their own and are natural.
ReplyDeleteThe Braddock family is crazy and it makes them unique. Yes Betsy was always a tomboy and action junkie therefore I'm happy the writer acknowledges Betsy as such.
I'm worried about Trinary falling in the clutches of Apocalypse. She seems naive and malleable like software in Apocalypse's hands. Here is pray that Trinary spies on Apocalypse without him knowing.
@FSaker your suspicion about Rogue, Gambit, Rictor and Jubilee prepped as the next horsemen is valid. Rogue suddenly falls ill and Gambit was the horseman of Death in the past.
ReplyDeleteI'm skeptical about Betsy and Jubilee to be able to transform into horsemen. Betsy has built defenses against Apocalypse manipulation thanks to the Life Seed and psychic barriers that saved her from being Death and Jubilee has retained her vampire training. Jubilee is also invisible to technology and immune to psychic probes as seen in Operation Zero Tolerance and Bastion's protocols.
I'm proud comics like this are on my pull list! Can't wait! Notice the panel where Rogue names Betsy Psylocke? I loved that tiny reference.
ReplyDeleteI don't care for Trinary how her powerset any different than the combined efforts of Madison Jefferies, Sage and Cypher? She just seem redundant and I'd rather read about the former 3 than her.
ReplyDeleteI wonder also if Rogue does get pregnant. Apocalypse mentions powerful mutants will he conceived that night lol panel goes to Gambit unless that implies he's aware he's being watched. I wonder if there will be tension between the two since he was once his horseman.
Excalibur is finally almost here! I hope I can get a nice variant from my LCS
You know, I just realized that these first pages from Excalibur #1 explain Betsy's absence in HoX and PoX - it seems she was with Brian's family this whole time and is just moving to Krakoa now.
ReplyDeleteI still wish she'd be shown in those miniseries, though... having Betsy written by Hickman would be a dream come true (and no, the alternate Betsys from his New Avengers run and in Secret Wars don't count). I truly hope he'll use her in at least one story arc of his X-Men book.
Do you all think we'll finally see a Betsy/Doug reunion or a Kitty/Doug reunion? It's a travesty that we have not seen these friends interact since the 80s! Also, since when does Brian call her "Bets?"
ReplyDeleteThey got the hair colour right. But there's no way Betsy (or any grown woman!) Would wear their hair like this.
ReplyDeleteThe writing and art are both way better than I expected though.
Oh please Rahsaan no Doug lovey-doveyness. It was awkward then it is vanilla now. Betsy likes the bad and wild. Friendzoned Doug is how I can stomach him, they start dating and I'll puke.
ReplyDeleteTom Lennox a badass agent
''Matt'' Gabriel an A-hole agent
Alex Summers the grey sheep of the Summers
Warren Worthington III a playboy with issues
Neal Shaara a womanizer on fire
Victor Creed wild testosterone
Fantomex/Cluster coldblooded killers
Nathan Summers an old fart with big guns
Kiki, 😂.
DeleteYou stay cuttin’ up! 💜💜💜
I don’t want her and Doug to date or knock boots. I want them to be friends and share panel time as they were close friends at one point. As were he at Katherine.
Can I count Iceman from the Age of X reality on Betsy's shaglist?

ReplyDelete@Rahsaan my pleasure! A suave man's compliments make my day 😘.
ReplyDeleteAre you sure Kiki? Betsy didn't sleep with Havok and Cable. Havok was stuck on Polaris in the Outback. Cable and Betsy discussed naughty but they didn't move further.
ReplyDeleteTobias I'm guessing you didnt read XForce by Simon Spurrier. Betsy was banging Cable clones every single night.
