Geoffrey Thorne Talks La Diabla Plus X-Force #7 Preview Art

ComicBook spoke to Geoffrey Thorne about adding a new villain to the X-Men mythos, someone else pulling La Diabla’s strings, how La Diabla has been watching X-Force since the very first issue, and his future plans for Tank. ComicBook can also exclusively reveal interior pages for X-Force #7, which feature La Diabla taking an interest in Betsy Braddock and Rachel Summers.

ComicBook: La Diabla seems like the perfect foil for Forge since she deals in alchemy and Forge is all about science. Walk us through her creation and what La Diabla is hoping to achieve with these fractures?

Geoffrey Thorne: La Diabla is formidable and very much designed to give both Forge and Sage fits. I wanted to put some new villains with new agendas and new powersets into the mix and La Diabla is just the first. As X-Force learns more about her, so will the audience but she is absolutely not to be trifled with or underestimated.

As for the rest, “spoilers,” is all I can say.

La Diabla says she “met a boy” who is later teased when she makes her exit after attacking Forge and Sage. What can you tell us about this mystery person and their connection to Forge?

I can’t tell you anything except La Diabla is not her own boss. She’s the Darth Vader to an Emperor we haven’t yet met. Or… have we?

Issue #6 ends with Betsy and Rachel suffering an attack from La Diabla while they’re in the middle of one of their psychic sessions. Why has La Diabla switched her focus to these two? And how will she test their relationship going forward?

La Diabla’s beef is with all of X-Force (with Forge getting special focus for some reason). She’s been monitoring them AT LEAST since Issue #1 and she’s had it up to here with their shenanigans.

Tank has been the wild card of X-Force so far. What do you have planned for the bruiser in upcoming issues?

Oh, quite a lot, I suspect.

  1. Not gonna lie, I feel a bit cheated when I saw that it wasn't pink. However, much like Lorna's "original" design has evolved (read: modernized) throughout the years drawn by different artists, I believe that this original Psylocke outfit has the potential to be used again in today's comics.

    1. Hell no... She will never be taken seriously wearing that... The outback armor... Maybe. Not this (I mean this becoming her permanent costume, its fine for a one off)

    1. @James no.

I believe Marcus had a commitment he had to go to (maybe wedding? I think Thorne said in recent interview).

I believe he is gone for 2 issues then is back.

  4. I wanna get this now, just because of the outfit. But Psylocke needs to be much taller and heavier than Rachel, they are not the same size, lol.

I'd take her seriously. Why does a costume need to be some Aggressive angsty thing to be taken seriously? It's a costume that many fans have wanted to see again, hence why they did it, most likely. I'm a fan of both, and took her seriously in both. It's part of her history and personality.

If some fans think it's girly cuz it's pink, remember Pink used to be the color for royalty, and blue the color for peasants. Because the reads were seen as more emotion, power driven, than the passiveness of blue.

    History helps. Lol.

    1. It's not about the colour... I love the Australian outback armor and that was pink and purple... Its the whole design... I think it's a very bad idea... But hey if you love it that's great... I'd rather see her in the armor

  10. Honestly, if this world is kind, we'd definitely have gotten the JSway-designed costume for Betsy by now. The one with silver armor shaped like her blue bathing suit with pink leotard underneath. I remember a little pretty butterfly brooch near her thigh also. That's a seriously lethal design; I hope anyone in the official X-Men team has looked at that art.

  11. I like what Ayodele is doing with Ororo; rotating uniforms. I wish all the writers would do that and we would able to get multiple looks for Elizabeth and the others.

  12. Call me nostalgic but I was so surprised that I liked even the pink sky lol!!!
Back in her own body and in the pink uniform with which she joined the X-Men!!
