Not thrilled Betsy needs the Rachel crutch to stay afloat in comics and popularity. I'll go along with the ship if Betsy's stock price goes up. Coward did huge damage Rachel doesn't lessen the blow as expected.
I don't think Betsy needs Rachel at all in that manner honestly.
They both have a fan base for sure (separately and together), but if anything I think its Betsy that might be the more popular one.
(Betsy seemed to get most of the questions it seemed to me with this new writer)
Betsy just needs to be written as her actual self with her edge, wit, combat skills, and a powerful psi.
The problem with CB imho is it didn't just change her codename, the writer also changed her personality (what should have been a progression, was a huge regression) with it.
If we get "real Betsy" back (which I am cautiously optimistic with this writer), then I think all can hopefully be restored for her.
Captain Britain and Tini were tombstones for Betts. I don't see recovery outta that. Marvel folks are toying with Betts pinkifying, roasting and dropping her rank. Rachel is popular with the fandom part of big cash stories it's looking at a tube Betsy wears not to sink till a good person - writer restores her.
Like how Revanche rides the Betsy's Psylocke coattails to make it into X books and teams. She was always inside there she had always the Betsy powers and memories it's all chill legit.

People are asking a lot (if not the most) questions about Betsy. Thats a good sign. Shows her popularity imo.
Also Imo because of the passion and how vocal the fanbase was & is,
They gave Betsy the butterfly back (which I don't believe for a second was the plan),
they initiallty tried to have Kwannon victim blame Betsy which then turned into Kwannon saying at the end that they were both victimized all along,
Betsy has been using her psychic knife again,
Yes Kwannon hinted at being inside all along, but the story was very vague, Betsy never confirmed it, and I think it got enough backlash from fans that actually remember they both had each other's body, not just a one way street..that it kinda got dropped & went nowhere.
We got a new writer and Betsy wasn't forgotten & made to disappear.
And now Betsy is on a mutant team seemingly doing stuff mutant based and not totally isolated from X related activities anymore (not obsessed with magic and Otherworld), has a brand new outfit (that isn't CB colors) and possibly has her edge and fierceness back
(yeah I wish her hair was definitely more purple, but at least she looks bada$$ on these covers and she's not chained up, has her head and arms trapped, or on the ground defeated like the covers she had been getting for years).
I think your right in that TPTB thought they could just make Kwannon "happen" and interchange them and we'd not care or say anything.
I think they now see we know that both characters are a lot more than just their bodies & hopefully see that they both should get their individuality.
I think if we all had been silent Betsy would have been doomed, but I think we spoke out enough that change happened.
I'm a lot more hopeful for her than I've been in a long time.

DeleteThey look amazing. Betsy feels light and mutant for the first time in a long time. Rachel has the hound marks and spikes that made her iconic.
