    1. I think they'll limit themselves to just calling her Psylocke to avoid the body swap mess. That's if they ever use her as more than a cameo

  2. i just hope i see her full origin story about the body swap

  3. Are they gonna erase X-Men 92 Psylocke mention she got a brother and is from Britain? Betsy gets sacked a lot.

    1. Agreed that was the only allusion to Betsy outside of the purple hair. I'm really curious

    2. I'll feign shock when I see Betsy with pink hair and Kwannon with purple. We kiss goodbye pieces of Betsy every day it's like Maddie mannequin and Jean but with Betsy stripped bare to her bones.

  4. Hello Everybody,

My questions for the community if this is indeed Elizabeth Glorianna Braddock:

    1. Do we want this version of her to continue on with an East Asian phenotype and in the hand suit?

    2. Do we want her to go back to her Northern European phenotype if that is canon in the animated reality?

    3. If No. 2 is yes, then would we like an animated version of Kwannon to become the soul inhabiting this body or would we like to see the animated reality go with Claremont’s original story plan of there only being one body that was altered and then changed back and thus Kwannon does not exist? (I feel like there might be varied opinions on this one.)

  5. If I remember right, on her appearance on the 90's show she mentions to Warren she's got a brother. That her thieving was to fund whatever good he was doing for mutant rights so I'm guessing this is Betsy, just in Kwannon's body.
While the show is just an adaptation of the comics I doubt they'd use Claremonts disregarded plans for it to just be a change in her ethnicity vs an entire swap.

  6. @Rahsaan 4. They can keep Elisabeth in the same suit, with the same experience and powers, but in her birth body, and discard every mention of this Kwannon business into the Earth's deepest canyon. A shame this is never an available option.

  8. rahsaan my vote 4 both psylockes 2 be 2gether and 2 be da 2 baddest beeoches on da 97 show

  9. @Rahsaan it is preferred Betsy to appear as Psylocke in any shape or form to coincide with the comic source material. Already in the 90s cartoon the Psylocke version introduced was Betsy Braddock based on the script.

  10. Hey folks. Just rewatched and read a book about the original show. Here's all that's canon about this version:

    - She is a psychic ninja thief who claims to steal valuables to help her brother help other mutants. She doesn't reveal her name or who her brother is. Her skin tone and eyes suggest she is Japanese, though she's voiced by a white woman with an American accent.
    - The only mutant ability she shows off is psychic knives, which paralyze enemies on contact. She can also throw the knives. So far no sign of the butterfly, other weapons or any TK.
    - In the storyline where she is introduced she is shown imprisoned with other psychics, along with a woman dressed in Kwannon's Revanche costume. This woman has blue hair instead of purple, probably a mistake.
    - Weirdly enough, there's a later episode where Cyclops fights a mutant named Solarr who says his real name is Brian Braddock. In the comics Solarr is not a mutant and obviously not Brian.

So it's still anyone's guess of who she really is. The showrunners have been careful about portraying people of colour with greater sensitivity, so I think they'd likely want to avoid the whole body swap storyline. So saying this is Kwannon and has been all along is definitely the easiest option.

  11. I'm fine with them making Xmen 97 version of Psylocke Kwannon. Maybe one day they'll have Betsy appear in her caucasian body with a British accent. Either way, I hope next season she's a main character.

I would have loved if Psylocke, Archangel and Iceman were on the team this season. They were very relevant to the team in the comics at that time. Next season seems like a mess with three different timelines. And the teaser for the leftover mutants Forge was looking at didn't include Psylocke, so I doubt she'll be more than a cameo.

  12. @randybear goes without saying that the driving force behind Psylocke is Betsy’s journey from fragile dreamer to a warrior lady. Helps in that decision Betsy's character was a contributing factor for many of the adapted stories. From Siege Perilous for creating Bastion in the process, the Extinction agenda, being a bridge to the Mojoworld and the Hellfire Club together with Warren and the Excalibur team.

  13. @Unknown Liberty Kwannon is a very weak character to stand on her own two feet in the series. She is a total outsider without the context of XTAS Psylocke being a British woman with a twin brother who she helps with her actions. Most importantly the Psylocke of the cartoon has a British accent implying it's Betsy. Also the purple hair solidify the fact that it is indeed Betsy because Kwannon has black hair.

  14. @jaimebraz here's a clip from her episode: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QSwMMyO1WSw. Definitely purple hair but not a British OR Japanese accent. I'm sure the original showrunners intended this to be Betsy since she was only person calling herself Psylocke at the time, but the new showrunners have lots of room to make their own decisions. Either way, there's rumors that Forge will put together a new team next season and I hope she's on it!

  15. It's X-men 97 (90s, Jim Lee era), so I reckon it's Elizabeth Braddock in Kwannon's body, which would actually give more stories for the series, if its run is long.

One thing I really like about the series is Cyclops' portrayal. They did him justice.

  16. Unknown by process of elimination XTAS Psylocke was a native of UK owner of a docks storage where she deposited precious things she stole for her brother and her hair were dyed purple. All the aforementioned are pointing to Betsy. Kwannon has ties to Japan, Yakuza and the Hand through her lover Matsuo Tsurayaba. I'm sure the writing team will debut Kwannon in Madripoor hopefully as the new Psylocke with black hair and the way she was introduced in the Krakoa era.
