Betsy Braddock Becomes Butterfly in Maximum X-Men

Betsy Braddock has a new codename: Butterfly! Tom Brevoort confirmed the name in his latest Substack newsletter, alongside new details and preview artwork from Maximum X-Men.

Written by Christopher Yost, with art by Tony S. Daniel, Mark Morales, and Leo Paciarotti, the series follows Avengers Armageddon. With the Avengers disbanded, Storm and Wolverine assemble a team to protect Earth from global threats. Joining them are Bishop, Colossus, Iceman, Betsy Braddock as Butterfly, Firestar, and Justice.

According to Brevoort, the book combines fast-paced action with character-driven moments. Its opening storyline involves an apparent invasion from the Negative Zone that develops into something more complicated. He also hints at a difficult road ahead for Justice.

Alongside the color page starring Betsy above, the previews include a lettered scene between Storm and Colossus, a penciled spread from issue #2, and the penciled cover for issue #3 featuring a new villain. Brevoort notes that the material is still in progress and may change before publication. Maximum X-Men #1 launches in December.

  1. I just saw this. Kinda shook. Don’t know how I feel about it, yet. I guess it’s better than CB?

It’s sad that apparently there’s no way they’re giving Betsy the ‘Psylocke’ codename back, even though it’s rightfully hers… that K-Anon person took everything. 🤬

Many Marvel characters have shared a mantle before. Why can’t she be Psylocke?

  2. I don’t mind it but please can we ask @leoarts on instagram to color her hair as light purple/bluish lavender. That hair is TOO MUCH PINK

    1. I need to see it without the pink light before judging, it seems the ends are more lavender-ish

  3. Nate I agree! If anyone is on IG can you kindly compliment and then just follow up with a pretty please make sure it's a solid purple :D

For those that still like to email Marvel as well, you can also let the team know that way! As editorial reads those letters.

  4. I mean... She's been "Mariposa Mental" for AGES in some Spanish translations. Not mad, at least the Butterfly is where it belongs

  5. I actually don't think that's a bad name.

It's something personally associated with Betsy.

& it may mean we'll see the Butterfly Effect much more now with Betsy.

I'm still not convinced she won't eventually get Psylocke back though lol.

Especially since the recent books have showcased her with that name in both bodies.

    We will see :)

but definitely happy to hear them say "formally CB" lol

  6. betsy deserved better than this. she did great things in her og body. kwannon was only a ninja, lady mandarim. they should erase kwannon's psychic powers and let her only with ninjutsu. let betsy be the psychic powerhouse alone

  7. This is so dumb. What a stupid codename.

    Betsy Braddock is Psylocke.
    Kwannon is Kwannon.

  8. Give her back her origin codename - Psylocke pls. Or take Monarch instead (it's one species of butterfly too).
